#17 Ohio State 69 ,#9 Illinois 53 (Final)

Anyone else disappointed with the crowd noise today? On television it looked like we were sold out but only had a couple of brief moments of actual noise.
Are you sure you didn't have the TV on mute? I was in the Nuthouse and we were absolutely insane, as was the vast majority of the arena. It was louder than the MSU double OT game earlier this year. I haven't heard it that loud for a game since Syl's game winner last year against....haha, sucks for the Illini. I'd like to comment on that note about the "Just like last year," chants at the end....priceless.

These are all great observations.

Regarding the rebounding, I thought Dials' positioning seemed better. His box-out technique was as good (against quality competition) as I've seen from him.

Our perimeter defense (and offense) was outstanding. I wonder if Matta used Weber's ESPN quotes as locker room fodder. We continually fought through picks or switched successfully out on top. Conversely, we came off picks and buried jump shots or drove the lane. Today, I saw the 1st team All Big Ten starting guards, and they were wearing 14 and 23 for the scarlet and grey!

Remember how we talk of Tress's teams improving all during a season and peaking in November? Matta's teams appear to be doing the same.

Also, Dow was right on the mark about Weber. He walked over to the staff with at least 10 seconds remaining.

I also liked the student's chant: "Same as last year!"

college games are 40 mins, nba 48. still in football season?
Honestly...yes...i've always got football in the back of my mind. But...if we need to play 60 minutes, looking at how we are playing now, maybe we could. In any case...we are playing really well!

Saw this on another board. I know it's unrelated to today's game, but it's funny nonetheless.....

Does anyone think Sylvester looks like Tackleberry from the Police Academy movies?

Ok, I'm finally going to sound off. This was the game that I have been waiting for. The win today says a lot. Namely, I think that we can hang with anyone in the country on a good day. Not every day has been or will be good, lets hope that we can keep the momentum. I feel that a Great 8 or Final 4 appearance would be something to be proud of. Having said all of that, this is what I saw in the game today. Really, very, very good perimeter defense. Dee Brown was essentially nonexistent but for spurts in the second half, and where was Rich Mcbride? We were keeping Illinois from getting any interior passing success all game. This is one of the things that I thnk won the game for us.
The other two? 1.)Dials' presence on the inside, and especially on the boards. That was one of the things that we have not been as good at as we probably should have been all year. 19 boards? Hats off to you young man. He dominated the paint, but that kid should never, and I mean NEVER touch the ball more than 10-15 feet out, ever. 2.) three point shooting. Un-freaking-real. The past two games, the three point shooting has been lights out. I knew they were good, but this is ridiculous.
All in all, a great performance. Foster was automatic and Butler exceeded, I think any and all expectations( and will continue to do so I believe). Sly made me cringe a couple of times, but he and J.J. hustled their asses off. Great win. Congrats to the players and staff. Cant wait till Wednesday. If we can pick up a big road win (and I say big because every game in-conference has turned out to big this year and it is exceedingly tough to win on the road this year) we should have a good head of steam heading in to the last 5 games of the season and in to the tourney. Lets hope a 3 seed.

Outstanding win for the B-ball Bucks today. Dials was man out there. I can't ever remember him getting an alley-oop and he was an absolute beast on the glass. I think Matta's stressing to the seniors that their clock is running down made Dials want the ball more than maybe ever before, both off the glass and from his teamates.

Butler seemed to be inside Browns jersey most of the game. Great D and he's proving to be one of the top offensive point guards in the B10 if not the country.

Foster is just clutch, he is another coach on the court, he seems to demand that his teamates play as hard as him.

JJ made the big plays when they were needed (big rebounds and blocked shots)

Syl makes some stupid plays, but he plays hard, works on D and is an outstanding passer.

All I can say is the future is now :oh: :io:
