'14 NJ TE Mike Gesicki (Penn State Verbal)

We will use the most reliable avenue. Prove yourself and you will be the number one target.

Agreed. Though osu hasn't always used the TE much in the past. Urban offenses have always been known to utilize the TE and tom herman has used TEs successfully at his previous positions

This recruitment does not concern me in the least. We need another OT or two in this class and everything else is just a bonus.

Agreed. I would like to see Mike as the TE in this class and I think he would be a great compliment to Baugh down the road. However, he is not a need and if he goes to PSU, it will not be a huge deal. All that being said, I am hoping to see Mike in the S&G.

This is the second year under UFM and Herman, and still no TE-centric offensive scheme...and the TEs we have now are no slouches.

I think Coach Meyer looks to get his best players the ball as much as possible. Right now, I'm not sure either of our TE's have the ability to demand touches be taken away from a guy like Carlos Hyde or Corey Brown.
I'm sure that's what he tells a young man like Mike Gesicki - "I get the ball to my best players. We think you can be that guy."

Didn't UFM say something along the lines of Heuerman being one of the best TEs he's ever had? And TEs don't "take touches away" from other players...a play to the TE is called when it is a beneficial call, and having a dynamic TE allows you to make those call more often.

In urban's 2nd year at UF the TE wasn't the focal point either. Our TEs, though are very good, our QB hasn't progressed this year, up to this point, where he's finding the TEs on a consistent basis. When urban took over, our offense was putrid, and last year he brought it up to mediocre. We had great leadership that led us to an undefeated record, but the talent wasn't coached up to the extent it is now, and we're still not to the level urban and the staff want us, IMO. We're still a work in progress, and a talent like gesicki would fit great in this offense to go with Baugh.
It took tebow 3yrs in Meyers offense to use the TE like Meyer wanted. Urban has a proven track record with TEs, but at the same time so does obrien. Like RB said, we're good with or without gesicki, and our priority should still be linemen.

Based on what you just said, getting Gesicki--or any other top-end TE recruit--won't make a difference. My point was that we already have the TE weapons to implement the type of TE usage UFM employed when he had Aaron Hernandez, but we aren't...

I agree that we have the weapons, but not sure where you mean that what I said means that getting an elite TE like gesicki won't help. Further in my post, I stated that tebow evolved, and was alluding to that Braxton could face the similar maturation, anD that could set us up well with our future QBs which would work in a positive manner in getting future TEs. I'm sure most Tes(and recruits in general) don't just gauge urbans 2yrs at Osu, but his coaching career as a whole(especially while at UF) and see how they would fit to our teams schemes.

We will have to agree to disagree. I think TE is a need and Gesicki is a premier TE that would really expand our passing game. The guy has amazing hands.

I know I've seen urban quoted saying this is the best GROUP of tight ends he's ever had, but you're making the assumption that either of our guys is as good of a receiving threat as Hernandez was. Maybe urban never had more than one good tight en at a time, so therefore this "group" is better than Hernandez alone. Also he's probably factoring in blocking into the equation, which has nothing to do with the ability to make plays with the ball as Hernandez did.
