'13 TX QB Tyrone Swoopes (Texas Verbal)

Is Texas expected to be a player here?

No offense but that's a crazy question to ask. Any top player in TX, UT goes after. I just moved to austin and I ironically heard this kid mentioned on the local radio station as a kid coming to the UT junior day this weekend. Mack brown is putting on the full court press. It will be difficult, but not impossible to pull from TX.
And what's crazy is UT expects 8-10 commits from this weekend and people r considering that slow down here! I hope osu can start recruiting at that rate.

A lot of Texas fans prefer JT Barrett to Swoopes.

Weren't those the same fans that preferred garrett gilbert to the frosh who were on the roster at the beginning of the year? There's a reason they're fans and not coaches.
And honestly, mack brown could mess around and get both kids with no problem

Wouldn't be surprised in A+M gets in on the act and pitches the old "Hey Kid! Come play in the SEC" angle.

If he's the real deal, he's probably already getting similar calls from Les Miles - who is the only SEC coach that strolls into Texas and typically gets what he wants.

Elite 11 Watch: Texas QB Tyrone Swoopes

Whitewright (Texas) junior quarterback Tyrone Swoopes passed for 1,394 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for 2,267 yards and 27 scores this past fall.

Throughout this offseason, we’ll spotlight Class of 2013 quarterbacks who have a shot at making the Elite 11 finals in July. This week we profile Whitewright (Texas) standout Tyrone Swoopes.

Elite 11 Watch Archive

Tyrone Swoopes knows he's not your average quarterback. Rated a four-star recruit in the Class of 2013 by RecruitingNation, the junior quarterback can hurt you with his arm, but at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, Swoopes has the imposing, athletic build to make opponents pay on the ground, as well. The proof lies in his 540 rushing yards and seven touchdowns during an October contest for the Tigers this past season. Scary thing is, Swoopes is determined to make his passing ability just as explosive as his rushing prowess.

ESPNHS: How would you describe yourself as a quarterback?

Swoopes:
I'm not bad, but I think I could work on the passing aspect of it. Sometimes, I tend to drop the ball and run when I feel pressured instead of stepping around and throwing it. I think that'll be important for me to develop going to the next level because there, it won't be as easy as it is now.

Contd....

According to Shaggy Bevo (a somewhat BuckeyePlanet like Tehas board) UT has offerred and it's possible he commits on one of their early Junior days

didn't notice this question had already been answered so :bonk:
Good to see solid information added to the thread instead of some quick lip. As we all know Texas more times than not gets their man. The only reason I originally asked about Texas' interest, was at the time neither scout nor rivals showed an offer. I won't be suprised if this one ends up in the general forum sooner rather than later.
