'13 OH F Nigel Hayes (Wisconsin Verbal)

With all due respect to your knowledge of the Toledo basketball scene, I seriously doubt if Matta would do a package deal especially since Loving gave a verbal close to 2 years ago.

I'm not talking about a package deal at all. Marc was going to OSU with or without Hayes. I'm only pointing out the fact that if Marc weren't in contact with Matta about Hayes for the last two years that this offer may not have happened. Now obviously Matta wouldn't have offered Hayes based only on this alone, I'm just pointing out that it may have been a factor.

I like his game. He a point forward in my opinion. Saw him down at state and he had some pretty nice moves down low, but he has to get bigger to play consistently down there, IMO. I have been waiting for the Bucks to offer him since he was a freshman. Hopefully he gets better with his shot and comes to OSU just like his brother.

With his brother transferring, I just have a feeling that he will not be coming to Ohio State. I initially thought that might be a plus for us but now that Kenny is transferring I just don't see him coming here plus I think there are some better options out there.

Aren't Hayes and Marc Loving really close friends?

It's not like Kenny was forced out.

And they play two completely different sports with different coaching staffs. Don't see the connection.

I guess since I have 2 brothers maybe my thought process is a little bit different. I know guys from the same family go to different colleges but for some reason I just think that it might have been an advantage if Kenny were still here. I guess we shall see:)

Supposedly but not brothers and I think that means a lot. Also, I guess if Loving and Hayes were that close why did Loving transferred to a different high school a couple years ago.

Loving started as a frosh at St. John's Jesuit, and is expected to compete for Ohio Mr. Basketball as a senior this year. He never transferred.

I think OSU is a "dream" offer, and even with Kenny leaving, have no bearing.

I have 4 brothers. We all attended different colleges. It actually made us closer. But, as you said, each family is different.

I really don't see Kenny's situation impacting Nigel's decision. Kenny missed spring football action and came back to find a stacked defensive line depth chart that he was never going to climb. He parted cbus on good terms and I believe he wants what's best for Nigel.

Nigel has a nice all around game with the ability to score both in the post and face up. I was really impressed with his showing in the state tourney games. At 6'7 he had a suprisingly good handle and perimeter shot. Areas for improvement would be 3 point shooting and attacking off the dribble with his off hand. Alot of his stuff of the dribble was hard dribble right with a predictable spin move. Overall I was happy to see this offer and think with some continued improvement in his game he will fit nicely in Matta's system and would be a great addition to the program.
