2010 Statistics (through first four games)
Offense: 8 carries for 79 yards & 2 TDs (6 & 37)
Defense: 21 tackles (15 solo), 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 2 pass deflections, & 1 fumble recovery
No, the statistics above aren't mind boggling, but sophomore Jalyn Powell is already making a name for himself on a Warren G. Harding squad that's not short on senior leadership. Due to the talent around him, he hasn't been asked to be "the guy," but he's impressed his coaches with the high energy that he plays with every snap, which has resulted increased roles in all aspects of the game. Offensively, he was originally listed as WGH's backup quarterback. While he still holds that spot, his athleticism has him seeing significant playing time as a slot receiver. Defensively, he has emerged as a starter at linebacker, and he can also be found on special teams returning kickoffs.
It's very early, but Powell's name is one that you'll want to listen out for over the next two years. He already has good size, and a solid work ethic will only make him bigger & stronger as he continues to mature physically & mentally. More updates soon.
