2010 Statistics (through first four games)
Offense: 8 carries for 79 yards & 2 TDs (6 & 37)
Defense: 21 tackles (15 solo), 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 2 pass deflections, & 1 fumble recovery

No, the statistics above aren't mind boggling, but sophomore Jalyn Powell is already making a name for himself on a Warren G. Harding squad that's not short on senior leadership. Due to the talent around him, he hasn't been asked to be "the guy," but he's impressed his coaches with the high energy that he plays with every snap, which has resulted increased roles in all aspects of the game. Offensively, he was originally listed as WGH's backup quarterback. While he still holds that spot, his athleticism has him seeing significant playing time as a slot receiver. Defensively, he has emerged as a starter at linebacker, and he can also be found on special teams returning kickoffs.

It's very early, but Powell's name is one that you'll want to listen out for over the next two years. He already has good size, and a solid work ethic will only make him bigger & stronger as he continues to mature physically & mentally. More updates soon.

Powell had 4 yards on 3 carries, but gained 20 yards on 2 receptions and played solid defense in WGH's 20-6 victory over Massillon. Here's a pic from the game.

Surprised there isn't more action with this from other schools and even Ohio State. Just watched his film from the April 5th post and am very impressed. Great speed, good moves, plugs the run well, returns well, etc. Love him as almost a Malcolm Jenkins type with all that he does well. If I were a lower level Big 10 team (I put Michigan in this camp for now) I would offer him just off of this film, but if I were Ohio State, Penn State or Wisconsin I would definitely take a close look at him based on grades and camps. This film shocks me that he doesn't have more offers right now.

Strong performances in the first few weeks of the season would go a long way in gaining more attention from schools. WGH opens with nearby Austintown Fitch, a school that was originally ranked #93 in the country by Rivals.
