The major Division I football scholarship offers keep pouring in for North Central High School's Darius Latham.
The 6-5, 280-pound defensive lineman credits his time with the North Central basketball team for putting him in this position.
"It does really help a lot. I don't know how well I'd be playing (football) if I didn't play basketball," Latham said.
Latham said basketball keeps him in condition and helps with his footwork.
"People keep saying that I hold my weight well," said Latham, a junior who earned honorable mention on the All-Marion County basketball and football teams selected by the county coaches.
Latham averaged 11.3 points and seven rebounds as the starting power forward for the Panthers' basketball team and plays with the Eric Gordon All-Stars in the summer to keep sharp.
"I'm enjoying the recruiting process right now," said Latham, who said the attention has increased this school year.
Latham, who is focused on football for college, took a trip to Tennessee earlier this week. He has also made unofficial visits to Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Indiana; all have offered scholarships. Auburn, Florida, Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi, Northwestern,
Ohio State and Purdue also have offered.
"The majority of them want me for defense," said Latham, which is his preference though he also saw time on the offensive line for the first time last season. "Auburn wanted me for offense."
