North Central?s Darius Latham was an honorable mention pick for the All-Marion County basketball and football teams. / Doug McSchooler / For

The major Division I football scholarship offers keep pouring in for North Central High School's Darius Latham.

The 6-5, 280-pound defensive lineman credits his time with the North Central basketball team for putting him in this position.

"It does really help a lot. I don't know how well I'd be playing (football) if I didn't play basketball," Latham said.

Latham said basketball keeps him in condition and helps with his footwork.

"People keep saying that I hold my weight well," said Latham, a junior who earned honorable mention on the All-Marion County basketball and football teams selected by the county coaches.

Latham averaged 11.3 points and seven rebounds as the starting power forward for the Panthers' basketball team and plays with the Eric Gordon All-Stars in the summer to keep sharp.

"I'm enjoying the recruiting process right now," said Latham, who said the attention has increased this school year.

Latham, who is focused on football for college, took a trip to Tennessee earlier this week. He has also made unofficial visits to Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Indiana; all have offered scholarships. Auburn, Florida, Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi, Northwestern, Ohio State and Purdue also have offered.

"The majority of them want me for defense," said Latham, which is his preference though he also saw time on the offensive line for the first time last season. "Auburn wanted me for offense."

From the article linked above

?The last time I talked to Coach (Mike) Vrabel he told me that they had one more spot for my position,? Said Latham. ?I know they have a great program and they are a great team. One negative though is they don?t offer my major, so that is something I have to look at.?

He wants to major in sports management. I cannot believe that tOSU does not offer that as a major.

I have a friend who is doing sports management for his masters at TOSU, so I'd assume there is something similar there for undergrads.

I graduated form the University of Central Florida. They have a great master's program for Sports Business Management, but only offered a minor in the same field. It may be like that at Ohio State, so no "major" per se, but I am sure if he is REALLY that dead set on it there are still classes he could take.

At The Ohio State University, Sport Management is only offered as a graduate degree. This is true for many of the top, world-class Sport Management programs across the country. Therefore, the newly designed Sport Leadership & Sport Humanities track was designed to give students excellent preparation for a career in the sports industry and to prepare them for success in graduate programs such as Sport & Exercise Management, Sport & Exercise Humanities, and Law. The critical thinking and writing skills that will be developed in this track of the major make our students very marketable for such programs.
