They didnt have room for Vonn Bell. Townsend would need to gray shirt at Bama.
I agree, hence my earlier statements in this thread.OH10;2301953; said:That might not be what is happening. It is just as likely (if not moreso) that we are worried about oversigning. I really hope we didn't pull this kid's offer and try to give him a gray shirt. That would be horribly wrong in my book.
I meant that it's likely some older guys are going to fall down the depth chart, they know it, the staff knows it, and they might look for somewhere they can get on the field.youra6;2301885; said:I recall reading on rivals a few weeks ago that 2-3 players had transferred/dropped out of the program.
Were they all walk ons? And I just realized this isn't the 2013 discussion thread. Sorry for being OT.
Offering a grayshirt isn't really "pulling" an offer, it's delaying it. But that doesn't entirely detract from your point. However, from the above link,OH10;2301953; said:I really hope we didn't pull this kid's offer and try to give him a gray shirt.
This sounds like the Buckeyes' staff hasn't done a single thing wrong in its dealings with the young man."I've been committed to the Ohio State University for the past six months and my relationship with Coach (Urban) Meyer and the entire coaching staff and the commits is perfect, there's just been some recent developments in the recruiting process that have caused some second thoughts in my decision with my family. I'm just choosing to push the signing time back a little bit to give it further thought."

Well, at least I feel better that the OSU staff didn't pull any shenanigans that caused all this.AirForceBuck15;2301969; said:http://www.cfnews13.com/content/new...ohnny_townsend_chan.html#.URKZwQnBSJo.twitter

Commitment status to Ohio State unkown for Orlando Boone punter Johnny Townsend

Punters do not normally dominate headlines on National Signing Day, but Boone?s Johnny Townsend is the exception.
Townsend, one of the top punters in the country, was expected to sign with Ohio State today but an unspecified issue, likely an issue as to whether an offer still is on the table, has arisen.
A noon press conference was called at Boone where Townsend was expected to announce his decision. Instead, he made a statement asking for patience and privacy as he still sorted things out. This came after his initial signing was delayed in the morning.
Townsend is expected to make a decision at 4 p.m.
Boone athletic director Doug Patterson said the situation is being discussed between the school and the Townsend family.
"Right now it's a personal matter between the townsends and Ohio State and they are woking as fast as they can to make sure that any concerns they have is taken care of," Patterson said."They really want to hold off on a binding commitment until they feel 100 percent comfortable with everytihng from the University."
Ohio State gained somewhat of a surprise commitment from Dontre Wilson on Monday night. Wilson, a slot-reciever type out of DeSoto, Texas, flipped to the Buckeyes from Oregon on Monday and may have put Ohio State one scholarship over the edge.
That move could have caused the Buckeyes to pull Townsend's scholarship offer. Ohio State also received letters of acknowledgement of Buckeye intent today from New Smyrna Beach slot receiver James Clark and Rossville, Ga., safety Vonn Bell. The Buckeyes, however, do still stand at the legal limit of 25 scholarships, even with Townsend countin against the number
Handpicked this summer by Ohio State coach Urban Meyer as the Buckeyes? scholarship punter, Townsend switched to Alabam on national signing day.
