With every touchdown, Joel Caleb became more enchanted with West Virginia.

The four-star athlete prospect from Midlothian (Va.) Clover Hill couldn't help envisioning himself in the same type of high-powered offense that helped the Mountaineers pound Clemson 70-33 in the Orange Bowl last week. The performance certainly made an impact on the top prospect in Virginia.

?I like West Virginia a whole lot,? Caleb said. ?They obviously can score a lot of points, putting 70 up on Clemson in the bowl game. I like them because they spread the ball around.?

West Virginia (long shot): The Mountaineers already have verbal commitments from several wide receivers, and they rarely steal Virginia Tech's homegrown talent.

Ohio State (fair shot): The Buckeyes' depth chart is a clean slate with Urban Meyer now calling the shots in Columbus, and, let's face it, who wouldn't want to play for Meyer.

Virginia Tech (bank on it): There's no place like home. Every kid born and raised in Virginia at some point dreams of playing for the University of Virginia or Virginia Tech. And every kid knows that his best shot of playing in a BCS Bowl Game is as a Hokie. VA Tech doesn't want to let this one get away.

Final take: MaxPreps' Tom Lemming has Caleb listed as the No. 1 prospect in Virginia. Caleb has to go where he thinks he has the best shot to play in the slot, and not based solely on what some savvy coach told him while sitting in his living room.

Caleb down to three

Clover Hill wide receiver Joel Caleb, who is expected to make his college decision on signing day, Feb. 1, has narrowed his choices to Virginia Tech, Ohio State and West Virginia.

Georgia was in his top four, but Caleb never took an official visit there and scratched the SEC school off his list a couple weeks ago.

He said he hasn't made up his mind among the three remaining choices, and he's using the last few days to evaluate his options. Caleb took his official visit to West Virginia over the weekend. He likes the fact that the Mountaineers frequently use four wide receivers. He said that their offense has eight receivers that are switched in and out.

He also denied reports that Ohio State is showing less interest in him than earlier. All three schools have an equal chance, and there's no favorite, he added.

When considering the criteria for picking a school, he wants a place where he can win, and a place where he can be coached up to the next level.

Caleb is still attending physical therapy to strengthen his knee, which was injured over the summer when he tore his meniscus. He doesn't remember injuring his knee, because he didn't start experiencing pain until the season began in September. But he thinks the injury came at a camp in Oregon in July.

He expects to be jogging next month and should be at 100 percent by the time summer practices begin.

At least three other Cavaliers will sign next month: Cornerback Tim Thaniel (6-0, 185) has committed to North Carolina Central. Lineman Peyton Gryder (6-3, 245) is going to William and Mary. RB/CB Dimitri Evans (5-10, 190) will sign with Virginia State.

Clover Hill's signing ceremony is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. on signing day. The three Division I signees is the most the school has ever had, coach Sean O'Hare said.

Joel Caleb hosting last visits

Virginia Tech and Ohio State are making a last push for Joel Caleb.

Hokie assistant Shane Beamer is set to visit the four-star athlete from Midlothian (Va.) Clover Hill today. Ohio State coaches are also scheduled to visit.

Caleb is also considering West Virginia. He has taken official visits to all three schools. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Caleb is expected to play receiver in college.

Caleb said he will announce his decision on national signing day on Feb. 1 but isn't sure what time yet.

UFM has to dream it to be legit :biggrin: But in all seriousness, Caleb is likely a Hokie. I tend to think our interest dropped off some...I personally would take Caleb over Cox any day at safety, but that is me (likely won't get either, just sayin).
