'12 PA RB Rushel Shell (Pitt Signee; Transfer to West Virginia)

Chances are, two of the three end up in C-Bus and that is quite a haul...

I can remember having 4 TBs on the roster and kids were transferring because of lack of PT.

We currently have 7 TBs who are either underclassmen or commits.

But the way the game works is you trade them all for one Beanie Wells or Eddie George.

Which one is that kid?

Had an opportunity to see Ball and Shell this year, and I will stick my original comment that there is not a current back on our radar that I would take over Shell. Ball is amazing in his own right, but Shell just has "it" more-so then anyone I have seen in a long time.

But I am sure that is why I am behind the keyboard and not on the sidelines on Saturday's. What a great "problem" to have.

I agree. Hope we put the full-court press on Shell. I also feel like Shell has the ability to be a game-changer at the next level. Great lateral moves and nice explosion.

I don't know that I agree. A stable of backs with complimentary skill sets can be just as effective as one back logging 25-30 carries a game. Four of the last Five BCS Nat'l Champs have rotated their RBs ('Bama last year being the exception, though Richardson played a lot too). I expect some attrition down the road, that's just the way it goes, but there is a good range of skill sets being accumulated:

Speed
Berry
Hall

Power
Hyde
Rod Smith
Dunn (if he commits)

Combo
Ball

I think Shell would fall into that "combo" category, but I think he'll get squeezed out by Ball/Dunn in the end. I'd guess they'd take all three if they all wanted to come, but hard to see all three of them committing.

In an offense run on spread principles (with TP/Braxton), a rotation is sometimes more effective IMO. You see the horses in more pro set offenses. Obviously, if you do have that stud that is just better than everyone else, you ride him, but if you have multiple talented backs, I think rotating is just as effective.

The category of running back that we really want is "franchise back" and (from what I've read) this kid has the potiential to be one. Let's try our hardest to get him. Oh8ch is correct: "But the way the game works is you trade them all for one Beanie Wells or Eddie George".

Some past FRANCHISE running backs:
Archie Griffin
Keith Byars
Eddie George
Beanie Wells

Current FRANCHISE running backs:
(so far) no current running back has "stepped up" to the position

Shell nears national mark

Hopewell running back Rushel Shell has rushed for 100 yards or more 22 consecutive games. He is getting close to moving into the top 10 nationally for the most consecutive 100-yard games.

According to the National Federation of State High School Association record book, Shell needs to rush for 100 yards in the next two games to move into a tie for the eighth spot. The record for most consecutive 100-yard games is 38, set by Billy Sims of Hooks, Texas, from 1972-75. Brad Hocker is second with 33 from 1988-90. Shell could move into a tie for third place by the end of the season. Emmitt Smith had 28 consecutive 100-yard games for Pensacola Escambia from 1984-86 and Steve Worster of Bridge City, Texas, 28 from 1965-66.

I am REALLY hoping that a) the staff offers, and b) Rushel isn't turned off by the fact that we already have two rb's on the roster for '12. I'm happy we have the haul we've pulled in so far (especially considering recruiting for the '12 class just started this month), but Rushel is the guy I've been keeping my fingers crossed for since about this time last year.

They recruited 3 backs in the 2009 class (Berry, Hall, and Hyde). I would love to see an offer to Shell. He has stated that his favorite are the bucks and a trio like that would be the best haul of running backs in not only the nation in 2012, but in a recent memory. All are 5 star quality guys.

This is my hope. My worry, though, is that something like this doesn't typically happen when they're all top tier guys. Like when Auburn was looking strong for Lattimore AND Dyer, but they ended up only getting one of the two. Hopefully Shell's a big enough Buckeye fan to not care about something like that.

Seriously doubt there is enough room with limited ships this year...Great looking prospect though...
