Stanford plans to trip to Michigan
Under Armor All-American wide receiver Dwayne Stanford II (Cincinnati, Ohio/Taft) has been relatively quiet this offseason but that's going to change over the next few months.

"Next week I plan to go to Michigan," Stanford said. "And in June I'm going to hit the road and see these campuses so I can trim my choices."

The 6-3, 187-pounder says he'll definitely be going to camps at Notre Dame, Kentucky and Florida State. He is also in regular communication with Ohio State, Alabama, Purdue, LSU, Miami and USC.

"My coach will be working a lot of the camps so I'm going to go with him," Stanford said. "I'm definitely looking for a good atmosphere and hopefully I can talk with the coaches and see what their plans are for me."

Stanford says that he is a great fit for a pro-style offense and takes pride in his ability to assist in the running game with his downfield blocking. As for Saturday's camp, it was a chance for him to see where he is as a top-level prospect.

"I want to be at a point where I'm the best and I know I can come out here and dominate," Stanford added. "Right now I have a lot of things to work on and this camp is helping me with that."

MgoBlog- "An Interview With Dwayne Stanford"

  • He still plans on visiting Ann Arbor with Adolphus Washington this weekend.
  • Says he "grew up liking Miami and Michigan", but he "just recently became an Ohio State fan." Also says, "[his] family are all Ohio State fans."
  • Adolphus and him want to play college ball at the same school, but Dwayne concedes that, "if it doesn't happen it's ok, but... we'd like it to happen."

Cincinnati Taft Under Armour All-American wide receiver Dwayne Stanford was surprised and saddened by the resignation of Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel, but it doesn't mean he's crossing the Buckeyes off his list.

"Well, you know I kind of had a good relationship with Coach Tressel and if I went there I was looking forward to him becoming my coach," Stanford said. "It's definitely a big letdown. I don't wish this on any coach, but I really wish it wasn't happening to Coach Tressel."

Few coaches can match the success Tressel had on the scoreboard and in the recruiting battles. With a 106-22 record over 11 seasons, Tressel was the face of college football in Ohio to a younger generation of fans.

"All I know when it comes to Ohio State is Coach Tressel because he was there when I really started watching football," Stanford said. "It's going to be weird for me to see Ohio State with another coach."

Stanford already has an idea of whom he would like to see hired as the next Buckeyes coach.

"Urban Meyer," Stanford said. "He could bring that SEC dominance to the Big Ten. Ohio State has had trouble in the past with SEC schools so him coming from that conference and bringing that success from Florida to Ohio State. He could just dominate the Big Ten and dominate the country."

Taft coach Mike Martin said DE Adolphus Washington and WR Dwayne Stanford both have a top 10 college list in their mind.
Martin said Friendship Collegiate Academy (Washington, D.C.) is very athletic and he said had 14 players go Division I last year.
Martin said Dwayne Stanford and Adolphus Washington are both in the top 7 of their academic class for 2012. The two are so competitive with each other that they often want to get the higher ranking on recruiting sites, Martin said.
Martin said the rest of his team Taft team is looking forward to the opportunity on ESPNU for a chance to make an impact in a high-profile game.

Cincinnati Taft's Dwayne Stanford is considered by many the top wide receiver prospect in the Midwest for 2012. At 6-5, 185-pounds, Stanford, a Rivals top 100 recruit, is a nightmare for opposing defensive backs. Stanford, recruited by MSU secondary coach Harlon Barnett, has said MSU is one of the schools he's strongly considering. Ohio State?s off-field troubles could play a role in his decision making process.
