Chaparral WR Neal gets early U.S. Army All-America invite
Scottsdale Chaparral wide receiver Davonte' Neal is believed to be the first sophomore to receive an invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-America Bowl.

Luke Neal, Davonte's dad, said his son received the invitation in the mail.

Davonte', who transferred from Laveen Cesar Chavez in January, would play in the 2012 bowl that features the top high school football seniors in the country.

Luke Neal said his son will be attending Southern California's Rising Stars Camp in June with Chaparral sophomore quarterback Connor Brewer.

Chaparral WR Neal offered by UA
Scottsdale Chaparral wide receiver Davonte' Neal (Class of 2012) got a verbal football scholarship offer today from University of Arizona coach Mike Stoops, Neal's father, Luke, said.

Neal was participating today in a 7-on-7 passing league tournament at UA.

This spring, Neal received a verbal offer from Oregon State.

During his freshman year, Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson gave Neal a verbal offer.

I think if ASU shows improvement this year they have a great shot at landing him. If ASU sucks again for the third year in a row, then I think the chances are slim. I think ASU will improve this year. Davonte also wants to play with his QB friend from high school in college and his QB friend seems to like ASU and was throwing up the pitchfork in the picture above with him. Davonte's dad is also good friends/grew up with a guy on the ASU staff and Davonte likes playing in front of his friends and family. All are good things for ASU, but none of it matters if they can't win any games.

?? He plays it pretty close to the vest. Since he lives here in AZ, he gets interviewed by a lot of local press and ASU people so they ask a lot about ASU.

On his Rivals bio, he doesn't list Ohio State as a favorite and Ohio State has not offered him a scholarship.

He says he wants his college coach and team to want him as a person and not a football player, so a good relationship is going to go a long ways with this kid and his family.

He and his best friend (and QB) Connor Brewer both have ASU offers and want to attend the same college. Time could change that, but for now that's a bonus for ASU.

Chaparral junior Neal lands offer from USC

Southern California gave Scottsdale Chaparral junior receiver/cornerback Davonte' Neal a verbal football scholarship
offer today, Firebirds coach Charlie Ragle confirmed.

Neal, 5-foot-10, 173 pounds, with 4.39-second speed in 40 yards, could play either side of the ball in college.

He has 13 touchdowns, two on punt returns, two on interception returns, three rushing and the rest receiving.

He has five interceptions in six games with 409 yards in interception returns.

Neal's first verbal offers came his freshman year at Laveen Cesar Chavez from Boston College, Arizona State and Brigham Young.

UCLA, Arizona, Oregon State, Duke and Louisiana State offered this summer.

Chaparral's Neal gets offer from USC - MaxPrep News

You have probably heard that Chaparral (Scottsdale, Ariz.) receiver/cornerback Davonte' Neal is the most dynamic junior football player in the state of Arizona. It?s becoming apparent that major colleges agree.

Southern California became the latest big-time program to make a verbal offer to the Firebirds' standout when the Trojans came calling last week. Neal already had offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boston College, Brigham Young, Duke, LSU, Oregon State and UCLA.

Neal is just 5-feet-10 and 173 pounds, but he ran a 4.39 in the 40-yard dash and has the ability to play both ways in college. That is clear when you look at his statistics.

In seven games he has 14 touchdowns, including 15 receptions for 385 yards and six touchdowns; 19 rushes for 144 yards and two touchdowns; 11 tackles and five interceptions with two returned for touchdowns; two punt returns for touchdowns and a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Chaparral junior receiver/cornerback Davonte' Neal said he was offered a verbal scholarship before last week's game by Hawaii.

Neal then put on a show for the Hawaii coach who stuck around to watch him play in the Class 5A Division II first-round playoff football game against Tucson Sunnyside.

Neal scored touchdowns three of the seven times he touched the ball, two receiving and one running. Actually, Neal had nine touches. But in a succession of plays, Neal had two running touchdowns called back by holding penalties, before no flag was thrown on his third running TD.

"That was ridiculous," Chaparral coach Charlie Ragle said about that series of plays by Neal.

Arizona State is recruiting Neal now to play on both sides of the ball and to return kicks, his father, Luke, said.

Today, Penn State gave a verbal offer to Neal.

"I'd like to be a two-way player," Neal said. "I'm enjoying what I'm learning from (defensive coordinator) Coach (Conrad) Hamilton. When I go to the U.S. Army All-American combine in San Antonio (in January), I'm going to do both.

"I like the challenge. When they beat me, I get to turn around and try to beat them."

Chaparral was quick to capitalize on Lake Havasu's mistakes. Chaparral recovered a Lake Havasu fumble at the 20-yard line and junior wide receiver Davonte' Neal was able to score on a 7-yard touchdown run. Neal then added a 35-yard touchdown run, his second touchdown of the game, to extend Chaparral's lead to 35-0.

"It was the last home game of the year," Neal said. "We came out knowing what we had to do and focusing on doing it. The whole team played great."

Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral athlete DaVonte Neal just got here and he's already been invited to the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Neal has 11 offers with Arizona State, Arizona, Arkansas, BYU, USC, UCLA, Boston College, New Mexico, Duke, Oregon State and LSU on his list.

Neal is going to enjoy high school and then decide after his senior season on his commitment.
