My personal prediction, based on no evidence at all is that:
- no way Marcus would have been allowed to sign if it jeopardized Neal or Diggs

I really have no idea whether the rumor is true, and if it is true what the reasoning is; however, I am sure that Marcus would have been allowed to sign no matter what. Urban raved about Marcus in every interview he did today calling his film one of the best he saw the entire year.

Since this is very confusing right now and even though I myself am very interested in knowing what happened...I think it is best to stop speculating. There are infitite possibilities that the mind can create as of now and eventually we'll figure it out.

While people have posited several great theories in this thread, what The BPRT is hearing on our end is vastly different. I'm sure the whole story will be told at some point but suffice it to say OSU moved on...
In other words, Ohio State would not have taken Neal even if the Buckeyes had ten spaces open. This decision was all about Neal, and had nothing to do with Diggs, spaces, NCAA, etc.

My personal prediction, based on no evidence at all is that:
- all is well Yes
- both Neal and Diggs can sign if they want to No, Neal is no longer an option (see above)
- no NCAA issue Correct
- statistically, an additional slot will free up by camp Irrelevant - it's Diggs or nobody at this point
- no way Marcus would have been allowed to sign if it jeopardized Neal or Diggs Wrong. Marcus was one of the new staff's top targets from day one - he had a spot guaranteed

Have you seen the video on Jamaal Marcus? I don't care what the recruiting services say, that kid is a five-star talent. No way the staff was turning him down to save a spot for Neal or Diggs or anybody.

Yeah, I agree. I'd been of the "we're fine at DL and LB, save the spot for another position" for a while, then I read a bunch of comments about his film. So I watched it. Somebody had made a comment about his "COD," which I couldn't decrypt. After watching a few plays, it became glaringly obvious what COD meant, and yeah... he's gonna contribute.

What is star recruit Davonte? Neal going to do?
by Anthony Gimino on Feb. 01, 2012

The rush to report recruiting gossip is unnecessarily breathless, which resulted in a Twitter-storm of conflicting information Wednesday about Davonte? Neal.

Neal, the star receiver from Scottsdale Chaparral High School, is in no hurry to sign a letter of intent. He?ll sign when he signs. Whenever he?s ready. We?ll probably all find out at the same time.

Arizona fans are caught up in all the drama because the Wildcats are one of five or six schools ? depending on who you believe ? still in the running for the player ranked as high as eighth nationally by ESPNU.

But, at this point, you don?t know what to believe.

On Wednesday afternoon, ESPN.com recruiting analyst Jamie Newberg tweeted that Neal?s father, Luke Neal, told him that his son would take an official visit to Arizona this weekend.

Then, Richard Obert of the Arizona Republic tweeted that Neal?s father told him there was NOT an official visit to Arizona this weekend.

Then, Mike Farrell of Rivals.com sent out this note via Twitter: ?I don?t have the reason why #OhioState won?t be taking Davonte Neal, I just know he tried to commit and couldn?t. Well sourced.?

Obert responded with a Tweet that said Luke Neal the family hadn?t talked to Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and knew nothing about the report that the Buckeyes wouldn?t take his son.

Finally, Obert posted a story on his blog late Wednesday night headlined ?Neal?s father miffed by reports.? Here is that story from azcentral.com, one of our Gannett partners:

Luke Neal, father of highly recruited Scottsdale Chaparral receiver/cornerback Davonte? Neal, was miffed Wednesday night by a tweet that said his son tried to commit to Ohio State but was denied.

The elder Neal, who has been handling his son?s recruiting throughout the process, said Davonte? did not try to commit to Ohio State and he had not heard that Ohio State was no longer saving a football scholarship for his son.

During an in-home visit from Ohio State coach Urban Meyer last week, Luke Neal said he told Meyer that his son was going to take this week to go over the colleges recruiting him before making a decision. At the time, Luke said Meyer would honor his wish and would not contact him during the week, but added a scholarship would be available for him if he decided to go there.

Luke said he had not heard from Meyer on Wednesday nor did he try to contact Meyer, after Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Mike Farrell tweeted: ?I don?t have the reason why #OhioState won?t be taking Davonte Neal, I just know he tried to commit and couldn?t. Well sourced. #RivalsNSD

Luke Neal says he doesn't know anything about a Mike Farrell report that Ohio State now not taking his son Davonte Neal.

What else is the guy going to say? It really doesn't do him much good to make a stink. All it would do is bring negative attention around his son's decision.

Why would he have to make a stink? When asked his father could have just said, yes tOSU is no longer one of the schools in the running for Davonte's services. That would have wrapped it up on both ends and left no doubt in the minds of the people that don't have the BPRT.

I have a friend in the athletic department who said the entire "Tried to commit, but Urban said no" rumor is false. I honestly don't think Neal is out of the picture yet, but I also don't think the rumor was created out of nothing. Probably just a conversation taken out of context.

Best way to let something die is to not answer any questions. In another day we will have all moved on. That is the ideal situation for Neal. Would you rather your announcement be about the school you choose or another school snubbing you?
