Same school that produced Tyler Palko and Dorian Dickerson. Had an opportunity to see him play when they played Hopewell as I wanted to check out Shell and came way VERY impressed with this kid. Tough, Tough kid who plays with a very high level of energy.

Caputo signature in demand

National signing day for college football recruits is officially Wednesday, but the recruiting season never really ends.

Even before this year?s seniors have signed on the dotted lines, next year?s seniors are being wooed and the local area is getting plenty of attention, led by West Allegheny all-state running back/defensive back Mike Caputo.

According to West Allegheny coach Bob Palko, the junior has already been offered scholarships by Penn State, Pitt, Ohio State, Purdue, North Carolina State, Michigan State and Boston College.

He seems like a very talented young man. Those are some rushing numbers.

He reminds me of Storm Klein, as smaller version. An excellent RB in HS who projects on defense at the next level.

How's his level of competition?

Sounds like Tyler Moeller's eventual replacement at Star.

Don't know about that one, I guess someone didn't tell that to Scott McVey and Chad Hagan, because I assumed they were very good replacements. This kid looks alright, seems more like a safety. Not feeling the comparison to Klein though, Storm was a monster in HS!

I didn't mean that he'd actually be the one to take over for Moeller-- that would be pretty unlikely considering Caputo would be in his first or second year at OSU (assuming he chose OSU). I just meant that he'd play the star position much as Moeller does/did. As for Cuputo being a safety in college, keep in mind that Moeller was about the same size as Caputo at the same point in their careers. I'd imagine the staff is looking at him specifically for the role that Moeller fills/filled.

They both put up epic rushing numbers in their respective states, however they both will likely play defense at the next level.

Caputo getting offers

The question of whether West Allegheny football player Mike Caputo would be recruited much by Division I colleges has been answered.

Pitt, Penn State, Ohio State, Purdue, North Carolina State and Michigan have all offered scholarships to Caputo, a junior running back-defensive back who was the Post-Gazette Player of the Year. More offers will probably be coming in the future.

Colleges aren't saying what position Caputo will play.

"They all say the same thing -- that he's just a player," West Allegheny coach Bob Palko said. "I'm not sure he can't be a running back in college. Do I think that's where he'll play? I don't know.

"Penn State likes him maybe at one of their linebacker spots and Pitt maybe at one of their linebackers. I think teams like him on defense because he's such a good tackler, and that's a lost art nowadays."

By Bob Lichtenfels
Posted Feb 9, 2010

Two of the offers Caputo had really been hoping for & is now excited to have are from OSU & Pitt... NC State & Michigan St. may be offering soon as well... He's getting to know more about
OSU & is hoping to visit for a junior day or Spring practice... No timetable is discussed but he says it won't be an early decision... No leaders discussed either...

From the Pitt site...received his OSU and Pitt offers in the mail...his coach says PSU and BC are also considering offering...also hearing from Purdue, , North Carolina State, Wisconsin and Michigan State...talks about his contact with the Pitt staff...thinks his decision could come down to Pitt, PSU and OSU and wants to major in engineering.
