'11 OH OL/DL Donavon Clark (Michigan State Signee)

Orgeron

Ed Orgeron's recruiting strategy, ie "throwing out offers" is anything but a departure from the Pete Carroll era; in fact, Orgeron's recruiting is what built the Pete Carroll era. He is THE best recruiter in the country, and that is not to say he can go out and get any five-star he wants, which he can. He identifies great under-the-radar talent such as mike patterson who was probably the best d-lineman of the Carroll era. An offer from USC, especially with Orgeron making the call is absolutely legit. They're still USC and they will still get pretty much everybody they want, the difference is Orgeron will look beyond the rivals 100 lists for his talent.

If you've ever read about Miami's fall under Coker, he admitted that their recruiting strategy was just to look at who everybody else was offering and top 100 lists and then recruit those same players. That's why they've been in the dumps the past few seasons (with the exception of last year).

I'm very familiar with Ed Orgeron's history, and I can assure you that there is a huge difference between the recruiting styles under Carroll and Kiffin. Much like Ohio State under Tressel, Carroll had final say over offers at USC. Kiffin gives Orgeron the freedom to offer whomever he likes. Anyway, USC is using these offers to drum up interest amongst out of state recruits right now. They are being very selective in who they offer in state.

Spring game draws recruits
By Tim Adams ? BearcatLair.com ? April 25, 2010

Spring football games are used as another way for college coaches to attract recruits to their campus, and Bearcat Bowl IV at Nippert Stadium on Saturday night brought a number of attractive prospects to the UC campus.

One of the biggest juniors both figuratively and literally was Donavon Clark (OL/DL) from Finneytown High School. The 6? 4?/285 pound Clark also watched Ohio State?s spring game earlier in the day. Clark has fourteen offers including ones from Cincinnati, Syracuse, West Virginia and USC.

With the way we seem to be in the front for Walker and Bennett, its a shame this kid probably wont get an offer thrown his way. Seems like another example of an OH kid who'd love an offer, but is going to have to prove himself somewhere else, since we probably don't have room for him in a class that is quickly filling up. And we've had few strike outs this year

Three win D-II regional track titles
By Kevin Goheen ? Enquirer contributor ? May 29, 2010

DAYTON - Donovan Clark had already earned a spot in next weekend's Division II state track and field meet before he entered the shot put ring on Saturday. After leaving the ring, the junior from Finneytown will head to Columbus as a regional champion.

Clark, Christian Patterson from Norwood and Bryson Lewis of Blanchester all won individual titles Saturday at the Division II regional meet at Welcome Stadium. Patterson won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches to earn his second straight trip to the state meet, while Lewis won the 800 meters in one minute, 56.27 seconds to also qualify for a second straight state meet.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for the state meet at Ohio State University beginning Friday. Dayton Dunbar won the boys regional title with 74 points, while Columbus Bishop Hartley took its second consecutive girls team championship with 102 points. Finneytown was the top boys' team, placing seventh with 22 points, while McNicholas was third in the girls' competition with 38 points. Shroeder Paideia finished 10th.

Clark's shot put toss of 52-5? was more than four feet better than runner-up Joshua Bannick of Greenon, but off his school-record throw of 53-1 earlier this season.

"I wanted to get 55 feet or more," said Clark, who placed third in the discus on Thursday. "I was in the zone and thought I could get it. I'll just go back and prepare to get it next week."

Clark stands 6-4 and weighs 290 pounds. He's been receiving a lot of attention from college football scouts this year.

"This year has been crazy and I feel so blessed right now," said Clark. "We're such a small school but I've been getting all of these offers and I've got people saying to me 'Look at Donovan, you'll be playing in the NFL a few years from now,' but I'm just trying to stay humble. I'm enjoying this."

Finneytown's Clark earns podium spot
By Tony Meale ? [email protected] ? June 5, 2010

Clark, the Cincinnati Hills League Field Athlete of the Year, finished sixth in the shot put (54-09.25) and 15th in the discus (121-03).

"It's pretty impressive to go (to state) in two events," Finneytown boys' head coach Doug Mink said of his lone state-qualifier. "Throwers do that, but a lot of times they're good at one or the other."

Clark was a regional champion in the shot (52-05.25) and finished third in the discus (143-07). He set a school-record in the shot (53-01.50) at districts - finishing more than six feet ahead of every other thrower - before breaking his own school-record at state.

"He's a big guy, so shot is his better event, but he's worked hard to learn the technique for discus," Mink said. "We're all proud and happy for him."
