100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock

Most of those bands aren't even hard rock. Having pantera number 45 says a lot about the whole list. I guess they just lumped everyone that wasn't madonna or garth brooks together and called it hard rock.

I get so sick of hearing about Nirvana this or that. Give me a fucking break. You have to be seriously drugged out to understand any of the shit they are saying in their songs..

"It's ok to eat fish, because they don't have any feelings" Kurt Cobain- one of the greatest songwriters of all time..:slappy::slappy:

when people kill themselves, they inevitably enhance their own reputation. If they were ok when alive, they are good when dead. If they were good, now they are great, If they were very good, now they are legends.

here is a trivia question, which rock and roll singer does Kurt Cobain mention in his suicide note?

I definitely agree we should have a poll on this one cause obviously everyone feels differently. I tend to agree with Strohs that Metallica should swap with AC/DC. I think Nirvana was a good band but is way too high cause AIC was definitely better. I think Floyd deserves a higher spot as well. I personally think Megadeth and Skynard could be up higher than they are too.

Not sure what you're meaning by this. Do you mean that they are sorta combining "Hard Rock" and "Heavy Metal"?

I mean it's all Rock.
Hard rock would have to be up to the individual. I dont see how you can have janis joplin and pantera in the same genre....

Hard rock as a genre has evolved. Its hard to compare Sabbath, Steppenwolf and Joplin to the bands of today like Metallica, Disturbed and Slipknot.

Its all great, just different eras. Just as it would be unfair to compare Hank Sr. to Tim McGraw in country music.

Music has changed. Comparisons into history are really quite pointless.

I agree with that, but at the same time. There's a difference between "heavy metal" and whatever you wanna call Janis Joplin. During the evolution of "hard rock" people have made up different labels for music because they obviously didn't sound the same.

Actually no, Janis Joplin was heavy metal in the 60's. Hendrix was as well, so was Zep. Slipknot is metal, but it's just today's metal.

I see what you're saying though, putting something like pantera and pink floyd on the same list.......doesnt seem right :)

But we all know who really killed him, don't we...?
He isnt dead, he's in a house at the foot of Mt St Helens with Elvis and Layne. Bill Gates is holding them hostage.

I would guess that half of the bands on that list were "Drugged out" most of the time. Almost every single song on Alice in Chains "Dirt" is about heroin, or the effects of it, and that is an awesome album.

I am not sure what your point is about Pantera, but if you think that their lyrics are easy to understand compared to Nirvana, or anyone else on the list, they I would have to say you have oiled yourself up once too many times. There are lots of fucked up lyrics out there, if you understood the context of that song, you would know what he is trying too say.

that list is hysterical.......i'd love to hear their criteria for "greatest".........is it most popular? most albums sold? best marketing? most elaborate stage shows? right place/right time?..........it certainly isn't most creative or innovative, most talented, best sound, or anything similar to those categories

obviously I have to mention TooL at #88, even though this was in 2000, a few years after their second full length LP, i'm sure they would make a considerable jump if the list was made today as they have become much more "popular/mainstream"..........there are too many others to name who's place on the list has not much to do with how good they sound, or how creative they are

I'm not arguing the point of lyrics being hard to understand. I will say that Pantera isn't looked at like nirvana. Very few bands are..Nirvana gets so much recognition for starting a whole new style of music that already existed. Not a damn thing they say makes any sense, and Kurt Cobain is a genius.... They hit the scene at the right time with the right sound and right marketing. If nirvana just started out today, they wouldn't be shit....

I do agree with your statement about being "drugged out"...It is music, but mostly what I listen to I like to hear it and not have to drink a 1/5th before anything makes any sense...by then I give up and go to bed anyways...
