100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock

To each his own, strohs...I was only a moderate fan of the Deftones during the Adrenaline and Around the Fur era, but when they took a dramatic artistic step step forward with White Pony and again with their self-titled album, I became a big fan. I think they are vastly underrated...Passenger w/ Maynard, Digital Bath, Lucky You and their cover of Duran Duran's Chauffer are some of my favorite songs. I think Chino Moreno's vocal range is amazing. Considering I like bands that are much more progressive, I am not surprised that their are some that do no agree with my feelings that they are one of the best "hard rock" (we are all using that term pretty loosely) of all time. I am pretty sure at least matz2 will back be on this one...

Gotta agree with LJB again on Bleach being Nirvana's best album. Nevermind was great, but Bleach was by far the most raw and showcased their natural talents.

I wasnt trying to bust your balls, just kidding around.
I am personally just not a big fan...
no worries man...likewise, I'm not a big fan of Van Halen, but I can respect those that think that kind of music is entertaining. I personally think that the VH1 list is based much more on commercial success, and less on how bands shaped the face of music. There wouldn't have been bands like Rage Against the Machine and Korn if it wasn't for bands like Suicidal Tendencies.

and, I'm sorry, but I thought Whitesnake was fucking awful...how they make any kind of list is beyond me.

Another band, that i wouldnt put on the list yet, cause they need to be around longer, is Mudvayne. They are movin up the charts fast. Hell they are playin the 3rd spot behind Sabbath and Maiden at Ozzfest this year. The new cd is so kick ass, really shows their talents, not so much raw and hard edge like the first 2.

Also think Mushroomhead needs more love, incredible band, Jeff has killer vocals, almost sends chills down your spine.

Suicidal Tendencies was definitely a great band. I saw them live in 1985 at the Enfield Roller Rink in Enfield, Conn. On the message board outside of the rink was a list of upcoming events: "December 14th, Suicidal Tendencies; December 21st, Skate with Santa" - pretty hilarious. The concert was kick ass; I didn't make it back for the skating with Santa.

FWIW, ST was voted worst band and biggest assholes in Flipside Magazine's 1982 poll, so I guess that not everyone recognizes greatness.

Having Nirvana and Metallica ahead of The Who shows what a total fucking joke VH-1 is.

Not a bad top 10.
I would swap Metallica and AC/DC, and put them both in front of Jimi.
I have never been a fan on Hendrix, actually I cant stand most of his music.
Also, what is KISS doing in the top 10?
There are many more deserving bands than that.

You're shitting us, right? Hendrix has had more effect and influence on rock guitarists than all other subsequent guitarists combimed.

I said nothing about his influence what-so-ever.
I understand the effect he has had on rock music, I just cant stand his music.

I grew up with Metallica and AC/DC. However I am a huge fan of Hendrix, Floyd, Zepp, etc.......and there is no way I would put Metallica or AC/DC in front of any of them. Hendrix basically invented the metal guitar sound. Metallica perfected metal. However with their last 3 albums, they dropped off my top 100 completely. Load, Reload, and St. Garbage.........pathetic.

AC/DC I love to death, but Angus doesnt hold a candle to Hendrix or Paige.

I was only re-arranging the top 10 as it stood, it definitely wasn't my list, and the more I look at it now, as with BuckeyeTillIDie I like it less.
I would keep Metallica up there as I stated, but I would drop AC/DC down.
I would also move Floyd way up there, and would also get Stevie Ray Vaughn in there.
He may not be "hard rock" but half of those bands weren't anyways.
