'10 CA QB Nick Montana (Washington Signee; transfer to Tulane)

Something else to consider, in the line of 'time from home'. It takes more time to drive from San Diego (approx 6 hours w/o heavy LA traffic) to Stanford or Cal than it does to fly from San Diego to Columbus (assuming meet connections). California is a big state, and it's a real pain to traverse by automobile.

How much time to fly from LA to the Bay Area?

BuckeyeFrankMP, depending on traffic and original location, it takes an hour or so to get to parking at LAX. Then between 30 and 60 minutes to get through ticketing and the lines into the gates. About an hour 10 minutes from LAX to SFO (San Francisco). Then an hour and a half to either Stanford or Cal from the airport. Less time if you use Orange Co or Burbank and fly into San Jose (for Stanford) or Oakland (to Cal).

When we travel, my family and I stay at a hotel by LAX, and still leave two hours before departure to 'get there'. Not anal, just prudent. And it costs as much to park as it does to spend the night (and they watch the car for free).

I think Joe can bypass the ticketing and fly up there himself.

Georgia is a pretty big offer for a California kid (simply because they usually stick to the southeast). While I don't see Georgia as a legitimate threat with Montana given their QB class last year, if this offer is any indication there will be no shortage of competition for Nick. While I don't doubt that OSU leads at this point, as the offers keep pouring in I can't help but lose a little bit confidence as his recruitment prolongs.

But he did already visit Columbus and hopefully will be back for the spring game, so I still have a good amount of confidence.

There comes a point where the amount of offers loses effect, where "Hey, I got an offer from [insert school]!" becomes "Ho-hum, I got another offer?" and it's almost a burden rather than a blessing...I think it's rapidly approaching that point.

I'd bet Nick pretty much has his short list already made up, regardless of what additional offers may come in.

QB Nick Montana, son of NFL Hall of Famer, considering Georgia

By Michael Carvell | Friday, February 27, 2009, 07:37 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Nick Montana, son of former NFL QB Joe Montana, said he?s not going to wait around for Tennessee?s offer, according to the Knoxville News.
?I?m going to visit a couple of other schools and if I feel one?s the best fit, I?m done,? Montana told the News.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback from Westlake Village, Calif., said he has offers from Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Alabama, Stanford, Maryland, Arizona, Nebraska and Ohio State. He?s waiting to hear back from several schools, including Tennessee and Southern Cal. The 2010 prospect hinted at making his college decision within the next two months.
Montana?s quarterbacks coach in high school is former Tennessee starter Casey Clausen. Montana has already made an unofficial trip to Tennessee to speak with coach Lane Kiffin. ?? It?s in the SEC. The fan base is ridiculous. It was a good experience.?

... But observers said Nick Montana, already offered a scholarship by OSU and several other schools, seemed to enjoy his visit, even commenting that he thought the Woody Hayes Athletic Center surpassed any pro football training facility he had seen. His mother was said to be impressed with, among other things, the academic support services available to student athletes....

I think he sounds kinda 'Wowed". This post by bucknut11 was right after NM's visit.

If he's coming back for the Spring game, he'll get the "wow" factor. I've been going for years, and I still can't believe that many people show up just to watch a scrimmage.

If any kid takes a 4,000-mile roundtrip, on his own dime, just to take in a team's spring game, he's more than just "impressed" with that school.
