Game Thread #1 tOSU at Illinois, Sat. Oct. 11th, 12 pm ET, FOX

I see we are in mid season form of looking to be disrespected by meaningless polls in the playoff era.

I get that the blatant manipulation is annoying but I won’t miss this part of the “old” CFB to be honest.

Who is ranked #1 and n the NFL right now? Who gives a shit? Exactly

you're right, but I also like shitting on SEC stooges.....so I'm in a conundrum.

I get it, and it is nauseating, but you guys don't have to prove shit. You're the defending National Champs. Besides you scheduled the GOAT Arch Manning and Texas so you at least tried. That's more than most can say. Sure, some goobers will probably say "well you only beat them 14-7" but that was also week 1 with a bunch of new guys.

And this is slightly off topic but Indiana on other other hand, after they lose to Oregon this week, they'll be 0-3 against real teams in the Cignetti era (No, Illinois is not a real team, unless Illinois either beats Ohio State or comes very close to beating them in a non-fluky way, (example, OSU doubles Illinois in yardage but have like 5+ turnovers allowing us to hang around) unless the Illini legitimately hang with the Buckeyes, IU shouldn't get any credit for that win, especially since they were at home and our entire starting secondary was out of the game at one point (I'll concede there's maybe some slight prejudice in this analysis but I don't care)

Winning the game on January 19, 2026 means something.

Rankings in mid-October mean nothing .. except for the clickbait merchants who thrive on outrage and controversy. Do yourselves a favor – ignore them, even the ones who are "pro" Buckeye (spoiler: they're not pro Buckeye, they're pro click).

To act like polls have no bearing on the seeding is silly. It absolutely will factor into the committee's decisions, even if subconsciously. It will most definitely cost a team from the north or west a home field playoff game at some point.
Yep, espn does just about everything it can to hype the SEC and diminish the B1G. Right now, the top 5 Power-4 QBs in the country are all B1G QBs, a fact that is certainly not talked about in the espn world. And those rankings aren‘t because the B1G doesn’t play defense, 5 of the top-12 teams in total defense are in the B1G.

And the voters are influenced by what they hear, and the current Heisman odds have Bama’s QB Simpson and Oklahoma’s Mateer in the Top-5, despite them being 10th and 43rd, respectively, in passing efficiency.
