#1 Ohio State 67, #2 Georgetown 60 (Final)

Canton

Like father, like son in at least one respect: discipline
Friday, March 30, 2007

ATLANTA (AP) ? After three years of hearing people dissect the differences between Georgetown coach John Thompson III and his Hall of Fame father, the younger Thompson felt it was time to highlight a very important common trait: If you?re going to be on the team, you?d better behave.

?There?s natural discussions and questions that compare and contrast between Pops and myself,? Thompson III said. ?Our public persona may be different, but the results that we want and how we want to go about it, how we want to represent this institution, are the same. And the guys know it. I don?t have to yell or scream, but they know they?d better do what they?re supposed to do. And they do.?

In about 24 and 1/2 hours the Buckeyes will be in the National Championship Game. That sound great just to say.
I really think the game will be decided by whoever does better;
Georgetown in the backside post play or Ron Lewis' play.
Greg and Mike will do what they are expected to do so it boils down to Green and Lewis.

I love this set of images (kudos to the AP photogs). They give us a peek into a side of the team we rarely see, and capture all of the emotions of preparing for the final four: humor, joy, intensity, pressure. A few of these will likely end up as caption contests.

I like the one where Matta is pointing to butler !
Yep, that one was great. So many sides of Thad were depicted: mentor, jokester, general, politician, future ABC reality show star.

Shakin' and laughing, unflappable Green ready for Final Four

By Joseph White
ASSOCIATED PRESS

ATLANTA ? Jeff Green pretended to be nervous as Georgetown walked onto the court for Friday's open practice at the Georgia Dome. ?Shakin', shakin',? he said with a giggle as he made his arms quiver.
The Hoyas' resident jokester was just being his usual playful self.
?I just like to laugh a lot,? the Big East player of the year said. ?I just like to have fun.? Which means one should be wary when sharing a bench with Green ? he just might pull the chair away when you go to sit down. He's also the one who does the silly dances in the locker room. On a road trip, he's the one who will sneak into your hotel room and create chaos when you're not looking.

Hibbert, Oden take center stage in national semifinal

By Kelly Whiteside, USA TODAY
ATLANTA ? America likes things large. Super-sized burgers and fries. McMansions the size of small cities. Hummers guzzling gas. So it's no small (or big) wonder the matchup between Georgetown 7-2 junior center Roy Hibbert and Ohio State 7-0 freshman center Greg Oden on Saturday is one of the most intriguing storylines of this Final Four.
"Maybe this is the Year of the Big Guys right now," says Hibbert of a weekend filled with the most anticipated big guy match-ups since Georgetown's Patrick Ewing vs. Houston's Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1984 national championship game.
How big is the big man battle? "The best player that shows up will lead their team to win," says Georgetown forward Jeff Green.

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]ATLANTA ? One year ago, it was painfully easy for Thad Matta to understand why his Ohio State team couldn?t keep pace with Georgetown.

Georgetown?s inside duo of Roy Hibbert and Jeff Green made the Buckeyes look undersized and overwhelmed.

The 7-foot-2 Hibbert and 6-9 Green combined for 39 points, 22 rebounds and four blocked shots in the Hoyas? 70-52 runaway win over Ohio State in the second round of last year?s NCAA tournament. Overall, Georgetown outrebounded Ohio State 37-24.

After the game, Matta made a prophetic look ahead as he considered the arrival of his celebrated recruit, 7-foot center Greg Oden.

?Next year, we won?t have that problem,? Matta said, referring to the size disadvantage.

Matta couldn?t know then that he would have a rematch with Georgetown this season, especially in the spotlight of Saturday night?s Final Four.

This will probably get lost in this thread, but is anyone watching the game in NYC? And if so where?

I have four friends coming in from D.C. and Chicago, OSU alum, and we are going to go out somewhere to see the game. . .

O-H!

Playing with the big boys
Breaking Down Oden vs. Hibbert, OSU vs. Georgetown
BJ Schechter, SI.com

When Greg Oden signed with Ohio State we knew the Buckeyes would be good, but this good? The big man has been quite a presence, but it's his high school teammate who has created the buzz of late. Mike Conley Jr. is playing better than any guard in the nation, and he's the reason why Ohio State is here. But the marquee matchup is still Oden vs. Georgetown's Roy Hibbert, and the clash of the titans in the paint is going to be awfully fun to watch (cont.)
