I've read from those on this board who have a real insight into OSU recruiting that kids that are seemingly "longshots" don't get offered by the OSU coaching staff unless there is sincere interest in OSU on the part of the athlete. Assuming that holds true here, OSU would seem to have a fighting chance for Newsome, although it is tough for me personally to get too optimistic at this point.

Contact was initiated between OSU and Newsome...who initiated contact is not important, only that it happened. After contact, an offer was extended. I'd like to think that our staff wouldn't "waste" an offer to a player, after they've had contact with him, if that player didn't express at least a decent amount of interest.
