'09 IN PF Stephen Van Treese (Louisville Verbal)

I hope I'm remembering this right, but I thought he said he didn't want to go to far from home(when talking about Duke or N. Carolina). If true, it should end up being OSU, Louisville and Indiana. I like our chances with that.

Bobby Capobianco (right in photo) hadn't planned on making a commitment to a college anytime soon.

Capobianco is the second commitment to Indiana for the Class of 2009, following Tipton (Ind.) forward Derek Elston.

It should be notes that Capobianco and IU target Stephan VanTreese of Indianapolis Lawrence North are really close friends.

Capobianco and Van Treese are both team mates on Indiana Elite

A Van Treese update

Indianapolis Lawrence North standout junior Stephan Van Treese looked really sharp in the Pittsburgh Jam Fest last weekend and has started to think about his list of schools.

The 6-foot-9 Van Treese, who helped the Indiana Elite team to the Jam Fest title, said he's narrowed his list to Indiana, Louisville, Ohio State, UCLA, Kansas and Florida.
Van Treese said he has talked to new IU coach Tom Crean twice on the phone and was recently on campus with his school for a field trip. It wasn't a contact period, so he didn't visit the basketball offices or have any contact with the coaches that day.

But he expects to talk more with the Hoosiers staff soon. Assistant coach Tim Buckley was a frequent visitor at his games last weekend.

Van Treese also said the recent commitment to IU by Ohio standout Bobby Capobianco - his AAU teammate and best friend - helps the Hoosiers "a little bit."

"I think I was one of the first ones he called," Van Treese said. "I'm happy for him because it's a good fit for him. It helps a little bit but it's not going to make my decision any easier."

I'm surprised he's not giving Purdue a chance given that they're clearly the top team in the conference for the foreseeable future.

Not sure about that. Michigan State, Wisconsin, and a little team down in Columbus might have a little something to say before they are "clearly" the best team.

Is the consensus still that this kid has all the measurables and talent, just hasn't been able to put it all together to get the production?

Seems like he'd be a good fit for us here. Maybe not quite the shooting touch Thad likes out of his bigmen, but still would provide size, rebounding, and defense.

Still up in the air IMO...Why I say this is because, we really need a guy that can give some minutes as a frosh...Is Van Treese that guy???...That is the question, but I would take him eve if he is a 4 year guy because we can use them as well...

I would love a combo of Van Treese/Orton or something like that...

Sounds good. I was looking at some clips of him on youtube, and it seems like he's athletic. He definitely didn't get a lot of plays called for him. Whether that's because of his age or limited offensive skills, I don't know. He seemed to be a good rebounder and defender though.

I think I'd really like Van Treese in this class.

We need some kids who are going to stay 2-3 years at this point.....Van Treese fits the bill......
I totally agree with the 2-3 years and I would start to lean to 3-4 but don't know if Van Tresse is that guy. From what I have read, he seems to lack in certain areas of his game. I also think we might only have one scholarship available for the 2009 class due to our APR score with KK leaving but that's an entirely new discussion.
