Maybe before NCAA sanctions but with 11 guys coming in the next two years and is self-imposed one or two scholarships, I don't see where the wind is coming from. Well, that's their problem and they won't be back into the echelon of the Big 10 until probably 2011 is they are lucky.OSUBasketballJunkie;1204998; said:According to the latest update they have one scholie remaining for 2009....
VanTreese talks rebuilding
Indianapolis Lawrence North standout Stephan Van Treese said he will pick between five schools - Indiana, Louisville, Ohio State, UCLA and Kansas.
But after watching Van Treese play this week and talking to him several times, I get the feeling he's going to have a tough time making a final decision. I would say Indiana, Kansas and UCLA will make the final cut if he narrows down the list soon.
One school the 6-foot-9, 230-pound Van Treese talked about several times was Indiana.
New Indiana coach Tom Crean had a chance to check him out last weekend at the adidas Ittakes5ive Classic in Cincinnati, while new assistant coach Tim Buckley has seen him a number of times in the past week.
Van Treese said it would be nice to try and help the Hoosiers get back to elite status after the recent debacles withing the program.

Another recruiting note:
A onetime top target of Ohio State and others, 2009 power forward Stephan Van Treese of Indianapolis Lawrence North (Greg Oden?s and Mike Conley Jr.?s high school), apparently has fallen off the radar of not only the Buckeyes but other major programs.
Van Treese, whose stock dropped steadily during the past year, went into the July cycle of camp and AAU play still saying he would choose from among Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Ohio State and UCLA. Now, however, the Scout.com Web site shows none of the five offering Van Treese a scholarship. A recruiting source confirmed that indeed is the case with Ohio State, which had offered him two years ago, after his freshman year of high school.
Scout has eliminated Van Treese from its list of top 100 recruits for 2009. Rivals.com dropped him to No.133 in its top 150. ESPN?s Scouts, Inc., ranks him No.67 in the class.
It?s another example of the perils of offering scholarships to and taking commitments from high-school freshmen and sophomores. Two years ago, Van Treese was one of the top, if not THE top, prospect in his class. Two years later, he?s just another player.
Swirling lately have been rumors that Van Treese ? who is interested in IU and whose stock has fallen since the summer (he?s no longer a ranked player on Scout or Rivals) ? will walk on as a freshman next year with a scholarship to come the following fall. Keep in mind this gets even more complicated than from where we sit now because three more scholarships should open up after next year once Dumes, Jobe and Rivers leave.
As yet, IU has no signees for 2010 ? the year Van Treese would theoretically get his ride ? though they do have Matt Carlino for 2011. Keep in mind, of the nine current scholarship players, five are freshmen, technically entitled to four years of eligibility, so they won?t come off until 2013.
The typical NCAA basketball scholarship limit is 13, though you?re allowed to cross that threshold by one, according to Big Ten rules.

Indianapolis Lawrence North center Stephan Van Treese, one of the top candidates for Mr. Basketball in the Hoosier State, received a visit from Pitino on Tuesday afternoon and called the U of L coach later that evening to give him a commitment.
"I was really thinking I was going to go to Indiana and it just didn't work out," Van Treese told The Courier-Journal. "But it's all going to work out for the best. I am very excited to be able to go to Louisville. It's a good fit for me."
The 6-foot-9 Van Treese fills a need for the Cardinals.
Pitino had been searching for a big man to add to the class, along with forward Rakeem Buckles and guards Peyton Siva and Mike Marra.
Van Treese said U of L had offered him a while back and then backed off this summer because "they thought I was going to Indiana."
But the player said Pitino and his son and assistant coach, Richard, went to Indianapolis yesterday and watched him in open gym and then made an offer.
"Coach Pitino sat me down and said he liked me," Van Treese said. "He told me all the stuff he liked about me and how I would be a good fit at Louisville. He told me that he doesn't pressure recruits at all to commit or give me a deadline. When first offered me, they did not try and pressure me like other schools."
