Uh, you mean offer? I don't recall us pulling our offer...

There is nothing about this kid that would give the first indication he would misstate the facts for his own benefit.

I don't think our Internet rumor based conjecture trumps that.

There are some that would differ but that is water under the bridge I guess.

Best of luck to Mr. Watt in South Bend.

Aside from Turner, this is the only real big disappointment for '09 imo. We've been so spoiled this year I forgot what it felt like to miss on a recruit you wanna see as a Buckeye so bad. Still a great choice though Chris and I would have loved to see you in S&G.

I am not an "insider", but I have been troubled by folks claiming that Ohio State pulled his offer after Tressel specifically told him to take his time. It would be disingenuous (at a minimum) to tell a kid to take his time and then a few weeks later tell him to commit now or we pull your offer. I have a very hard time believing that Tressel would do that. Now the spin (on other sites) is that the kid is lying about the offer still being on the table to save face? I don't believe that either.

Best of luck at Notre Dame.

I fimrly believe OSU would have accepted Watt's commitment if he had offered up...and I until I hear someone say with some clout say otherwise that is what I will continue to believe. End of story, as far as I'm concerned...

Agreed. You don't pull an offer on a 5* blue chip recruit. Best of luck to Chris in South Bend.

With all due respect, would you expect the kid to say otherwise? I can't recall a kid who ever said, when committing to a school, that he had settled because his first choice pulled his commitment (sic)

Illinois ALWAYS has a shot. When will you learn?

IrishIllustrated.com - Dream comes true for Watt (free Rivals)

July 13, 2008

Charlie Weis probably didn't mind this vacation time out.

On the beach with his son Sunday afternoon, the Notre Dame head coach received a call from elite offensive guard Chris Watt with news the Irish program had been working to hear for nearly six months. The four-star prospect from Glen Ellyn, Ill., wanted to take himself off the market with a commitment to Notre Dame.

Continued...

Selecting between Weis and Jim Tressel gave Watt two renowned options.

"You can't beat Coach Tressel. He's a phenomenal person and a good coach, but it's about the overall school and everything," Watt said. "Coach Weis is an NFL coach and to play for him is a very big step. Just the overall package of everything, being close to home and being in a big-time football program with really good academics, that was all big.

"It's always been a dream school."

When you are a guy like Watt, you really can't go wrong with so many quality options.

Would have liked him in our class, but we'll make due :wink2:
