'09 FL DB Brandon McGee (Miami-FL Verbal)

So, with the commitment of Justin Green today, and with the prior commitment of Dominic Clarke and CJ Barnett, is this going to affect Brandon McGee's decision? I'd LOVE for McGee to be a part of this class, but that makes three potential CBs already.

Thanks,

Sideshow

it will likely effect his timetable on committing if plans to chose us. Im sure we don't want to go over 25 schollies for this class, so if McGee is serious about us, then he will have to do it soon as more players are beginning to verbal. DB isnt a position that is in dier need, as we took six DB/CBs in 07, a handful in 08 and now have 2 for this class already. Though if he commits late, be assured JT will still welcome him.

Four potential CB's, if/when Corey Brown commits later this week....

Looks like McGee's decision might have been made for him already.

A) Why are we so sure McGee is only being looked at as a CB? The kid is downright explosive with the ball in his hands.

B) Having said that, the fact OSU just landed Green makes me a whole lot less worried about McGee. I think that highly of Green.

IMO, McGee isn't the type of kid that you turn away. The train might already be rolling, but you stop and pick him up.

It's not that the staff would turn him away, or turn him down. It's just, how much time and effort are they now going to spend pursuing him?
If he's showing some interest still, but they think he's not that hot on becoming a buckeye, how much effort do they spend trying to convince him otherwise? Or do they spend that effort in securing the guys they also want and think they should get?

Absolutely, 100% chance that the staff turns him away ... and for good reasons. First, if the Buckeyes have no more space left, then there is no way that they can take him, regardless of what McGee wants to do. But more importantly, it is simply bad form to lock up four cornerback recruits in June ... and then let some kid who is "enjoying the recruiting process" come in and give you a Signing Day verbal. What does that say to the other four prospects? Oh, you were good enough eight months ago, but now we've got some "big time, high profile" guy who's going straight to the head of the class.... Nope, not happening.

So, if McGee wants "in", then he'd better do it soon....

EDIT: Oh, and one more thing ... as good as McGee is, he's not a "once-in-a-lifetime" recruit like Terrelle Pryor. In other words, I just don't see the staff varying from their recruiting strategy (fill up the class before the seasons starts) in order to make an exception for McGee....

You summed up the point I was trying to make, but better. Thank you.

As you said, We now have a class of 20 and are loaded on the D-Side of the ball. Of course we want the guy and would love to have bhim, but with this class filling up so fast, do we really have the oppertunity and time to wait untill up to signing day for this kid?

Understandable LJB. Thanks for your input and I'm "starting to see the light" lol.

Have to disagree. Some kids do go straight to the head of the class. Pryor certainly did. Adams likely could this year. As would Hall if he wants to push it that far.

Now I don't know if McGee is one of those kids - particularly compared to some of our other options. But it does happen.

The differences - (1) Pryor was a "special" prospect, (2) Pryor was the only QB whom the Buckeyes recruited last year, and (3) for a long time prior to his commitment, Pryor assured the staff that he would be a Buckeye in the end (the dreaded silent verbal....). I just don't see any of these factors in play with McGee.
