'08 PA LB Shayne Hale (Pitt signee)

Scout $

2/2

From the Michigan site...lengthy intro piece on Shayne without one mention of OSU...only Michigan and ND.

Shayne's coach was quoted in a recent news article (previous page of this thread) as saying OSU is his clear leader...I just hope we keep the pressure on.

2/5

Film.

My take: Great size for a kid whose movement is so fluid. Certainly looks the 6-3 218 the film lists him as. Would make a great MLB with that kind of size in the OSU defensive scheme (must the way they anticipated Hoobler being). Hvae to wonder if a move down to DE is possible with that kind of height and frame, although looks like he could stay at LB for now. A very aggressive tackler, doesn't have the quickest first step, but does seem to read things on the fly fairly well. Fills the gaps like a taller version of Bob Sanders...meaning he fills quickly and always attacks low.

Probably a good film for 21 to review...

After watching the superbowl last nite I think that Urlacher is a good comparison...

BTW we are thinking Mike for him right?

That is what I said in my reivew...I see a future MLB. I like the Urlacher comparison...very similar on film.

He is more than 218. His coach says he is 235 now.

Wouldn't surprise me...the intro to the film says 6-3 218, which are the numbers I was using when I said the numbers seem to reflect the size he shows in the film.

Agree with most everything...first name that came to mind was Katzenmoyer. It is just shocking to see someone with that frame close like that...and the impact is not as impressive as the Big Kat, but considering Shayne is using half of his body, it is impressive. What I mean is right now Shayne is doing things with mostly upper body strength...he throws a mean flipper but does not show a great base or delivery on the film...however, he rocks the OL and gets downhill fast. I love it...he is a raw, downhill, seek-and-destroy 'backer. Sign him up ASAP.

I would say if we got Pryor and Hale out of PA, that is about all you can ask to steal from your neighbor state. We might have got more PA kids a couple of years back, but these 2 alone would be a major get.

Everything I hear about Hale makes me want him in this class badly. Hopefully he'll want to end his recruiting early and help draw more top talent to join him at tOSU. :)
