'08 OH WR/DB D.J. Woods (Cincinnati signee)

The selfish part of me is glad that D.J. enjoyed his trip to UC, even if it was to see WV. Not the selfish part that doesn't wanna see him play in the Big Ten, I would just like for him to stay in Ohio. I found myself rooting like crazy for the Bearcats Saturday, which is something I'd never done before. Maybe it's growing older, although more likely it was just rooting against the 'Neers, but I'd never actually cheered for UC before. It wasn't all that bad, to be honest. I took a college visit to Athens, which will always hold the 2nd spot, but in a year like this where it feels like tOSU against the world, it's nice to have Ohio do well in general. I think D.J. would be a very popular man on campus in Cincinnati.

Receiver D.J. Woods commits to WVU
By Mike Casazza
Daily Mail sportswriter
MORGANTOWN -- When D.J. Woods pledged Sunday to play football for West Virginia Coach Rich Rodriguez, the relief was impossible to ignore.

"You know," Woods said Tuesday, "it was like a thousand pounds were lifted off my shoulders. I'd been really quiet for a couple days trying to make up my mind, but I can't stop smiling now."

wow, if DJ hasn't had an exciting recruiting mess in the last 6 months, I don't know who has. Finally got some OSU interest, Nebraska verbal, health issues, WVU verbal, and now the coach leaves. I really feel for these kids. They are in the midst of one of the most important decisions of their lives and coaches they thought they would be playing for for 4 years just up and leave like they are playing musical chairs. DJ has some thinking to do now, wouldn't be surprised if he does end up at Auburn now.

Nah, RR just called. DJ will get to wear #1, we're not really going to run all that much, and only the really good Ohio players get to go to Michigan (anybody hear that one before?)... Sorry, mods, I have no real pertinent information, only speculation.:wink2:

I've heard an early rumor (from a Michigan fan, so take it for what its worth) that DJ woods "may" be following Rich Rod to Michigan. I can see it happening, but I personally dont see why he would be following Rich Rod around: the guy has proven the past two years that he isn't the beacon of trustworthiness.

As an Auburn fan I'd love to have DJ Woods in our new spread offense, and I really think he'd thrive in Tony Franklin's system. Ironically he committed to WVU just 2 days before Al Borges was let go and a much more pass happy offense was chosen as the successor. From what I've heard one of the biggest reasons why Woods didn't choose Auburn was the distance issue. I talk to a recruiting insider who was with DJ and his mom during his Iron Bowl official visit and he said that DJ had a really good time but he was worried that he knew literally no one at the school. I'll continue to hope that he sees the light after the coaching fiasco he's been through this year.

Poor kid...I feel bad that he's had to go through so much emotionally the last few months (not only the recruiting process, but his health issues as well), then to read the "thousand pounds off my shoulders" quote just a few days ago only to have this put back on his plate.

Keep plugging away, D.J. It all will only make you stronger. :wink2:

Good luck to him with his decision. (p.s., you don't want to go 'up North': reference Burgess, Maningham, Crable. j/k...o.k., not really :tongue2:)

But good luck...seriously. :)

WVU football recruits re-thinking options
By From staff reports

D.J. Woods, an All-State receiver from Strongsville, Ohio, who committed to West Virginia University last week, said Monday the Mountaineer football state of affairs has changed his mind.

"This is the third time I've done this and the second time the school I committed to had a coaching change," said Woods, who previously committed to Nebraska, where Bill Callahan was fired, and was set on going to Auburn until he visited WVU earlier this month. "I'm starting to think I'm a curse."

He hasn't heard from anyone at WVU after Rodriguez called him Sunday and said he wanted Woods to go to Michigan. Woods reopened his recruitment and said Louisville called with a scholarship offer Monday. Penn State, Auburn and other schools that already had offered scholarships also made new contact.

WVU safeties coach Bruce Tall recruited Woods, but a team source said Sunday Rodriguez wanted Tall on his staff at Michigan.

"Michigan is a very serious option now," Woods said. "I committed to West Virginia because of the coaching staff, but I started thinking about Michigan when Coach Rod called me and told me he was taking everyone with him."

Woods may not be alone in re-thinking his commitment.
