'08 OH RB/LB Devoe Torrence (Akron signee, transfer to ??)

That statement just seems very out of character with this staff...Is this common for the staff to tell a recruit this?

Could this mean the staff is thinking that one of Saine or Herron will redshirt? With Mo, Beanie and [Saine or Herron], it would be possible to save the other class of 2007 Frosh to have the equivalent of two 2008 RB's...

I do think that one of the two will likely redshirt. My money would probably be on Herron.

Still, I don't think telling him we will take only 1 has too much to do with that. I honestly believe that the staff wants Devoe very, very badly. Especially since losing out on him probably means he will head to scum. With the needs on both lines and the strong class of WR and TE, I would be perfectly happy with only 1 RB, especially if it is a great one like Devoe.

Just looking back over the lifespan of this thread... and it seems everyone raves about Devoe Torrence.. and his LINEBACKER ability... I still cant figure out why he is so set on being a RB...

Ive asked before, but havent gotten much of an answer, but what do u guys think of this kid at the RB position... I dont see an elite RB... personally, I think this kid would sell himself short if he plays on the offensive side...

So since Devoe is soo set on playing running back, how do u view him as a prospect?? I really dont see him as a key part of this class if that is the case.. He is a nice RB, but if u didnt show me his defensive numbers and film, I probably wouldnt consider him such a great player...

Am I missing something... is he really an offensive star, and a legit top back??

I think that the Buckeye staff is willing to let Devoe come to that conclusion himself, after he arrives in Columbus. Right now, there's no point in telling Devoe that he's a linebacker, or else.

Agreed, but you really put yourself in a bind by telling him you wont recruit anymore RB's if he comes on board and then he switches to LB and you have another depth issue b/c you passed on other RB's this year...

IMO this all becomes moot if Devoe is allowed to be the main focal point of the offense, whether it is Massilon Wash. or Canton South...i think he just needs reps

Staff told him they won't take another RB if he commits, then they believe he is either an elite RB or they don't intend on taking any RB's in this class.
What's your source on that? It would make sense if the staff said that to Pryor, but it would cause serious depth issues in 2009 and beyond.

Bill Greene confirmed that info...the staff has told Devoe if he comes on board (publicly or privately), that they will not take another RB in this class.

Devoe has the talent to be an elite RB, just as much as he has the talent to be an elite LB. Where he ends up remains to be seen, but the idea is to get him on campus first, and you do that by telling the kid whatever it is he needs to hear.
