gcmsc;874269; said:iIC... What is Dan's brother , Kyle's status at ND? Where is he on their depth chart and will he be competing at safety, cb or even wr?
In my opinion, he was just as good as Dan, maybe slighty better, because of his big play ability on D and special teams while at Mooney.
Also, was there some kind of rift going on with Weis and McCarthy's parents at one time last year?
I have not heard of a rift between the McCarthy family and Weis. I know I sound like a typical fan when I say this, but I tend to doubt there is validity to it. If so, why would Dan be considering the Irish so heavily? And on the off chance that something did happen - it is plausible I suppose - its obviously something that has been patched up, and/or wasn't so big a deal to begin with.
From everything I've read, Dan has more potential than his brother. Kyle's only two "national" offers were from Ohio State and Notre Dame. Any offers Dan gets are based on his own merit, because his brother hasn't made a name for himself in South Bend. Dan has offers from LSU, Oklahoma, and Stanford, not to mention the entire Big 10 is after him along with ND - and this is before his senior year started. Maybe as a high schooler Kyle was a better player, but to me its pretty apparent coaching staffs around the country think Dan has a better chance at making a splash at D1. Plus, we haven't seen Dan's senior year, so to be fair its a little early to say who was better while at Mooney.
As for Kyle, he's still an unknown quantity to many at South Bend. He's currently slated at safety - which is his probable home for the duration of his career - where he's only seen the field in mop up duty and on special teams. He played 83 minutes on special teams last year, and 1 minute with the defense. Right now, he's probably somewhere between 2nd and 3rd string. This will probably be his make or break year, and to be frank the odds of him making an impact aren't so good right now. Two other safeties brought in during the same class as him have seen real playing time - one is slated as the starting free safety (Ohio product David Bruton, for those interested), and the other got a spot start at strong safety last year when the regular went down with an injury.
