Jones visit to IU was 'great'
Mount Vernon (N.Y.) senior forward
Kevin Jones made an official visit to Indiana last weekend and was present at Hoosier Hysteria. His brother,
Gerard Jones, said the family left Bloomington with a good impression of the school and the coaching staff.
"It went great," Gerard said. "Everything was great the way it was. Kevin liked it all and the Indiana fans are some of the best in the country. They did everything to impress the recruits.
"It meant a lot to Kevin that the fans took the time to learn a lot about him."
And perhaps something that left and even more lasting impression was a conversation with the coaching staff. Gerard Jones said the coaches pulled them aside and informed them of the news that was about to break - that coach
Kelvin Sampson and assistant
Rob Senderoff were about to be punished by the school for recruiting violations.
"We really appreciated that from them," Gerard said. "They didn't have to tell us but they did. They turned themselves in when they could have swept it under the rug. But they didn't do that; they took responsibility."
Jones said the violations won't stop Kevin from looking at the Hoosiers.
Kevin Jones has also already made an official visit to Ohio State and has upcoming visits to West Virginia this weekend and later to Massachusetts and Pittsburgh. He's slated to make an unofficial later this week to Seton Hall and is also still considering local colleges Syracuse, St. John's and Rutgers. He expected to sign in November.
"The timetable is still the same," Gerard said. "We have a couple of weeks to go. It's going to be an extremely tough decision with everything. Already with (Ohio State and Indiana), we have certain things we like about each school.
"Indiana and Ohio State did a great job and there were things he took away from both schools and I am sure there will be things from the other (three) schools. The impression they made on Kevin is going to make (a decision) that much tougher."
Gerard said he has talked with Kevin and hopes his brother has "a gut feeling" on what school to attend after all the visits are complete.
