'08 GA DL Brandon Thompson (Clemson signee)

I can't add too much to this, but I used to live in Thomasville. I was a sportswriter for the Thomasville Times-Enterprise. I left three years ago so Brandon was just a freshman and he was on the JV then. Anyway, I still stay in touch with some people down there and I was told that Brandon has a lot of family in Ohio and that is why he is high on the Buckeyes.

Talk is that Clemson is still the team to beat, but it's good to hear that he has some family ties here. It may just make pulling him from the South a little easier. Like somebody else said, that part of the country is tough for any school outside of the Southeast to recruit in. It's in Florida State's backyard, but it's also big-time UGA country.

For those that don't know, Thomasville is the hometown of Charlie Ward. Thomas County (population 40,000) has produced 25 NFLers. It's a talent-laden area.

Hopefully Brandon hit it off with Jermale Hines while he was up in Columbus. Jermale played 3 years at Berrien High School in Nashville, Georgia. Berrien is in the same region as Thomasville HS.

Agree with the Rivals guys and several posters...DL with eligible numbers are some of my favorites (probably why I like Bowers and Thompson so much)...

I've heard rumblings about possible grade issues and all but I'm also wondering this...does Thompson have an offer? Seems like he does but there is nothing official.

Good question on the offer. At this point in the year, would OSU have him up on an official if they weren't at least willing to offer? I'm not sure.

Regardless, I can't imagine not taking him if he's interested.

First I've heard about any form of grade issues...reports a 3.3 and Dad is an Assistant Principal...unlikely that they fabricate the GPA. I'll check on it though just to be sure...

Yes, Brandon has an offer.

Mostly just speculation it seemed and since the staff brought him up I really doubted it in the first place. Not to mention that Georgia doesn't have a knockout academic standing. Good friend of mine's dad was the dean of a college in Georgia and he said sometimes the student would have a good GPA but a horrible SAT/ACT score, so sometimes the GPA was misleading. I think the base of the speculation was coming from uncertainty on an official offer though. Thanks.

That problem is far from being a Georgia issue...more like (insert any state's name here) problem. A 3.3 GPA gives plenty of wiggle room with a test score.

Let's leave the speculation to the Rumor Mill next time...

Thomasville?s Thompson visits Ohio State; Jackson visits ?Bama

Thomasville defensive lineman Brandon Thompson, one of the missing jewels in Georgia Tech?s current recruiting class, remains silent on his college plans.
?He just doesn?t talk much,? Thomasville coach Richie Marsh said Monday evening.
The fourth-best defensive tackle in the nation according to Scout.com, Thompson is coming off a visit to Ohio State on Nov. 2.
?I asked if he had a good time at Ohio State and he said he did,? Marsh said. ?He went by himself. His father usually goes with him on visits.?
Thompson, whose front-runners appear to be Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami and Florida, visited Tech on Sept. 29.
?I think he?s got an interest in Georgia Tech,? Marsh said. ?And just from knowing everything, I?m sure he?s still considering Clemson. That was from the get go.
?I?m sure he?ll wait until the end of the season to see how everything unfolds with how teams finish and what coaches stay and what coaches don?t stay.?

It happens in every state but he was saying that it happens a ton in Georgia. My mistake though it should have been in the rumor mill.

From the AJ Harmon article posted in his thread:

Harmon said he and Tiger target DL Brandon Thompson will visit together on the same weekend. Thompson, who made an official visit to Ohio State last weekend, has scheduled Clemson for November 16th but Harmon said Thompson will change that date. Harmon is confident Thompson will join him at Clemson. "He's coming with us," he said.
