Thompson Ready To End Recruiting

By Phil Kornblut
DL Brandon Thompson (6-2 275) of Thomasville, GA will make an unofficial visit to Clemson for the Boston College game, and after that he will be ready to make his decision. Thompson said Wednesday night he doesn't have a definite announcement date in mind yet, but the announcement will come shortly after that visit which he will take with his parents. Thompson made official visits to LSU, Georgia Tech and Ohio State, and he made two unofficial visits to Florida State this season. Those schools are the finalists and Thompson did not indicate a favorite, but in the past he has said he's favoring Clemson. Thompson talked with his Clemson recruiter Billy Napier Tuesday night.

Thompson on his college plans.

"He just doesn't talk much," Thomasville coach Richie Marsh said. Thompson, Scout.com's fourth-ranked defensive tackle, visited Tech on Sept. 29 and Ohio State on Nov. 2.

His other frontrunners: Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU and Miami.

"I think he's got an interest in Georgia Tech," Marsh said. "And just from knowing everything, I'm sure he's still considering Clemson."

Tech still in the mix for Thompson; Jackets to offer Bass?
By Jeff Hood

Thomasville?s Brandon Thompson, considered the fourth-best defensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com, continues to show strong interest in five programs.

?I feel good about all the schools,? said Thompson, who is considering scholarship offers from Clemson, Georgia Tech, LSU, Ohio State and Tennessee.

The 6-foot-2, 295-pound Thompson plans to travel to Clemson on Saturday when the Tigers host Boston College.

Thompson, who visited Tech earlier this year, said he?d enjoy the opportunity to play for Jackets coach Chan Gailey.

?I?d love to play for him,? Thompson said. ?He?s a real nice guy.?

Thompson, who visited Ohio State during the first weekend of Nov., didn?t appear stunned after learning that the Buckeyes lost in Columbus on Saturday to Illinois.

?Any team can lose,? he said. ?I guess it was just their time to lose.?

After admitting that he?s confided in very few people over where he will play college football, Thompson refused to set a timetable on when he might commit.

He did rule out delaying his decision until signing day in February.

?Oh, it won?t be that long,? he said.

Like next season. It's obvious after today that the Buckeyes can sorely use that immovable force in the middle of the line.
I completely agree. A guy that can bull rush through the OL up the middle and not get pushed backwards is sorely needed. We need to control the middle. If you'd notice, the Dufrene 80yd run and both of Juice's 3rd and long conversions were from holes up the middle. You won't be able to run stretch plays and sweeps against us, becuase we are too fast around the edges. But, running right at us, with the guys we have on the DLine right now, is the way to go.

Is there any timetable after Brandon's Clemson visit for a decision set?

This was the Clemson version of Mike Brewster when it came to pushing Brandon to Clemson...not sure how much of an impact it will have, but...

Harmon Backs Off Clemson Commitment For Now

By Phil Kornblut
DL AJ Harmon (6-5 325) of Louisville, GA has been committed to Clemson, but that commitment is now in doubt after his visit to Georgia Saturday. Following is an updated story from Jeff Sentell of the Augusta Chronicle.

The blackout in Athens, Ga., was only supposed to eclipse Auburn. It may have gotten Clemson, too.

A.J. Harmon: Jefferson County star isn't sold on Clemson.
Click photo for optionsThat may be the case when it comes to Jefferson County senior A.J. Harmon .

The 6-foot-5, 325-pound lineman has verbally committed to Clemson. But the Dream 16 standout had a change of heart on Tuesday.

"My mind and heart is really centering on Georgia," he said. "I'd say I'm 65 percent sure I'm going to Georgia. I'm going to go to Clemson this Saturday for the Boston College game. Clemson better pull out all the stops. Because all I saw on Saturday with that blackout may have changed my mind."

It's a stark reversal for a giant of a youth whose cell phone has a bright orange faceplate, not to mention Harmon bought a $35 Clemson belt buckle earlier this year.

"I was 90 percent sold on Clemson before Saturday," he said. "You could say 100 percent Clemson. But I saw a lot of stuff in Athens I wanted to be a part of."

Harmon will visit with his family and an inner circle of school administrators and coaches whom he trusts on Sunday. He plans to call both teams on Sunday with his final decision.

He will let his chosen school know so they can hold a scholarship. He'd let his second-place school know so they can find another defensive lineman.

"What I saw Saturday was me," Harmon said. "Georgia played with emotion and let it all out. That's me. That's the player I am. A place that's hype like that is a place for me to go play ball."

Great news!

This quote is obnoxious, I'm glad he's not an OSU recruit.
