If you read Goebel's thread, I can't see where you'd get the indication that he's wavering. Indeed, Xpunisher said Garret would honor his commitment quite plainly early on. So, your answer is no.

Ok, cool.. Thanks for clearing that up. I haven't really had a lot of time to check on the recruiting situation this fall. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going and wind up with a couple more verbal commitments after this weekend's game. Thompson would look great in the scarlet and gray!:osu:

If you look thorough this thread, I have said all year long that this kid is one of my favorite DTs in the country this year. I have always held out that small, sliver of hope because he always seemed to mention us when discussing possible visits. NOW, I get to be excited. Hopefully Brandon likes his time this weekend enough to commit, because if he stretches it out past this weekend and takes his Clemson/FSU visits I don't think he comes here. I am hearing that this is a make or break trip for Brandon, and with the Brew Crew on hand... PLUS the group going out to dinner with the staff... PLUS the hype surrounding a Willie Mobley commit... it may be easy for Brandon to get caught up in it all, love what he sees, and commits to the staff with Mobley. MAN OH MAN, I cannot wait to see what comes of this!

I really like DL's with "eligible numbers" and Thompson wore both #34 and #35 on his highlight tapes. That shows he is an "athlete". Very quick off the snap. Big lower body, has power, gets off blocks, very disruptive. I thought he had the best highlights in terms of big plays and the best acceleration to the ball in this group (despite what every body's listed 40 times were). I definitely see him as a nose, who could be entrusted to control both A gaps and leave linebackers freed up to pursue.

Category Rankings: Defensive Tackles

Brandon ranks as the:
  • #3 Strongest
  • #2 Best Run Stuffer
New SR footage posted as well for Brandon today. I will leave the analysis up to the experts here.

Not an expert but: BAMF...unbelievable first step, plays with great leverage, excellent athleticism, and a zone blockers worst nightmare. One play he actually hits the FB on an option play before the QB can get the ball in the pocket to make a read. Just gets low and drives blockers a mile into the backfield, or just throws them aside if he prefers. On run plays he shows great pursuit angles and athleticism. Great motor as well. How he isn't in the top 100 I have no clue. I'm going to make a very bold statement...best DT in the country next to Marcus Forston.

I have been saying this ever since I saw his video months ago. I have heard many things regarding our run D this year (mainly, to beat us, you have to run right at us because we will chase you down on sweep plays and off-tackle runs)... and Brandon could easily make this statement obsolete.

From 7/2:

Film:

My Take: I knew Brandon was a beast after word came out of Clemson's camp...however, his film is worth watching. He is what has become the expected out of the southern DL...big, agile, and nasty. That 40 time may say 5.3, but that first step says nightmare. Brandon explodes off the ball, through ballcarriers, and into backfields...however, he does show a tendency to play high and needs to fire those hands better...easily fixed. Brandon is basically benchpressing OL instead of shocking the breastplate...impressive display but won't fly at the next level. He is a longshot...but worth the effort.

New Film:

Still needs work with the hands...the penetration and burst is obvious, but this is a highlight film for a reason. At times, those skills work against a DL so I am assuming there will be need for polished responsibility and gap discipline. Lateral agility is sick...

I was at the game on saturday. I recognized a lot of the other recruits walking by but didn't pick out Thompson. Does anyone have a Brandon Thompson confirmation of him being there? Did he end up making the trip? Hope he did, b/c the D-line dominated, especially the end of the 3rd and all of the 4th quarter. I've read that he's a heavy Clemson lean. Any inside info on that and whether OSU can still snag him up out of Georgia? Someone earlier posted that he may get the itch to commit if he enjoyed his visit and Mobley possibly commits in the next few days. My view is that it hurts our chances of landing him. I'd love to have either of them but I don't see us getting both.
