'08 CO LB Jon Major (Colorado signee)

Hate to ask an "any updates" type question, but where do you guys think we're at with Jon now? Seemed we were courting him a little back in November, but not really any news on the Buckeye front since and no offer either.
Are they just waiting to see how Hale, Torrence, and Sweat handle their situations, or maybe want to see a little more out of Jon since his injury, or has interest cooled?

I don't know that interest has cooled...I just don't know that they are ready to commit an offer to Jon at this point. They have offered Hale and Sweat and also have an offer to a RB/LB in Torrence. They are also in touch with Beachum, Zordich, Spooner, Jamiihr Williams and Douglas Rippy among others. Major was not overly impressive on film to me, but the staff thought enough of him to invite him in for a game last season. I just think they are going to be extra careful with the next batch of offers to go out and may not hand out too many between now and camp.

That's what I was hoping, but nice to hear it from somebody a lot closer to the program. Thanks for that insight!

Our chances of landing Hale, Sweat, and Torrence seem pretty good. Torrence has the versatility to play RB though, so I think we will see one more LB offer. But echoing what wad said, we will likely be very selective. I would think that Beachum is next...plus if we get Hale, he is an ILB, like Major. Then keep in mind Torrence could be an ILB...so Major will have to earn an offer at camp if he wants one.

Is he coming to our camp though? Near as I can tell, there hasn't been any real communication between the staff and Jon since he came to The Game in November. I think Tressel will either slow-play this situation or target some other LBs.
Not that this is a bad thing, as all 3 of us have noted we've already got 3 offers out for LBs, with 2 more possible studs in-state, and it's quite possible Tressel is only looking to sign 2-3 LBs to begin with.

On a different note, I'd also like to point out this is another kid whose father was an athlete -- granted he was never professional, but he knows the recruiting process and I think he and his son "get it". Anyway, living in CO and knowing Ponderosa HS (very good school academically, though known most for their band) I'd love to see Jon in Scarlet and Grey.

The staff has remained in contact, but I don't know how serious the interest is at this point. We shall see...

IMO, Jon has the build of a SS/OLB but does not have the speed to play there at the next level. I know he is listed at 4.5 but I did not see that in the film I watched. Jon reminds me too much of Andrew Dailey/CJ Peake...all are outstanding football players in their own right, but not necessarily what this staff is looking for. As such, I just do not see an offer coming Jon's way any time soon, if at all.

I agree I think his speed is more fit for a Mike or a DE at a big time school...
