'07 WI OL/DL Josh Oglesby (Wisconsin signee)

Josh is the one player in this class I want to land more than any. Hopefully, he saw Charlie Weis on ESPN yesterday gushing over Sam Young and realizes more of an ample opportunity in C-Bus. I expect this to be a lengthy recruitment and hopefully with the lack of tackles in the past class, Josh and the tackle position are a top priority for the coaches.

Josh is a top priority and has a good relationship with Bollman. It's most likely going to come down to OSU and ND. Whereas I think ND has a slight advantage with Martin, I think we have the slight advantage with Josh.

with the loss of Alvarez, i see Wisconsin recruiting slipping and I hope we take advantage of that and go into that state hard. Although extremely early in the process, i really like our chances of landing Oglesby. I wonder who recruits Wisconsin, i do remember us going after a few prospects from there the past few years (Rhyan Anderson, Travis Beckham).

Oglesby may visit Iowa for their Junior Day. Oglesby has called the staffs at Iowa, USC, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Nebraska just this week. He has not narrowed his list. He plans to attend Junior Days at Ohio State, Michigan State and Notre Dame. The most important factor in his decision will be wether he feels comfortable at that school. Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Illinois, Arkansas, Louisville, and Stanford are just a few of the schools who have offered.

From the ND site...Weis was in to see Josh recently, and he has spoken to PC recently. He will be at ND's junior day on 3/4 and he talks about his ongoing basketball season. He will likely camp at Notre Dame, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Does it seem that ND is in the lead for Josh just because the ND sites are calling him and doing stories on him more than the Buckeye Sites?

and when an article is published, he mostly talks about ND becasue the articles are mostly written by ND people?

same with Ben Martin.

What do you guys think?

Local newspaper article.... announces that both Josh Oglesby and John Clay and top 15 recruits for next season. Talks about how Oglesby plays on the St. Francis basketball team and how Jim Tressell, Bill Callahan of Colorado, Lloyd Carr of Michigan and Charlie Weiss of Notre Dame have all been in to visit him in the last week. The article provides some quotes on Ogelsby's interest in Wisconsin and stated that his family wants him to take visits before making a decision.

Here are some of the highlights of a recent article in a Madison newspaper about the text messaging of student athletes from D1 programs.

"By the time Josh Oglesby opens his locker and retrieves his cell phone at the end of the school day, he typically has a handful of text messages waiting for him.

It makes his day, says Oglesby, a 6-foot-8, 320-pound junior at St. Francis High School -- located in the city south of Milwaukee -- who is considered to be among the nation's most highly regarded linemen in the 2007 recruiting class.

"It's really flattering," he said, "to know that they're taking time out of their busy schedule to text you....

....So while players like Oglesby have another seven months before their phones begin ringing off the hook -- or vibrating in their pocket, as is the case in the new age where every recruit seems to have a cell phone -- they're already feeling the love in the form of text messages.

A typical text message to Oglesby during football season is an inspirational message on game day.

"It's usually just something like, 'Have a great game tonight,' or 'Good luck tonight,' " he said....

....Text messages have a huge impact, at least if you ask Oglesby. He said he receives messages from the UW, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan State and Stanford. Better yet, he's gotten text messages from four head coaches -- Bielema, Notre Dame's Charlie Weis, Iowa's Kirk Ferentz and Illinois' Ron Zook.

"Whenever I get a text message from a head coach, that just sticks out so much in my mind," Oglesby said. "They're a head coach at a Division I program; they have so much more that they could be doing. For them to take time out of their more-than-busy schedule to text me is just phenomenal."

i wonder if kids realize that some lacky probably does the actual text messaging with the coach's phone.
I've never understood why kids are so enamored with the attention they get from coaches. "takes time out of his busy schedule" doesn't make sense to me either. you ARE his busy schedule.
