07 Recruiting (CBF40's look at our prospects)

crazybuckfan40;650442; said:
There seems to be a ton of positive recuriting news swirling around right now. At this point I am thinking we take 8 or 9 more guys, and from the looks of it all are going to be either 4 or 5 star guys.

Wouldnt it be awesome if we would finish our class with:

Martin, Thomas, Wilson, Still, Barksdale, Brent, Wright, Berry, Davis/O'Dowd... :yow1:

That is 5 5 stars in my book with Martin, Wilson, Barksdale, Berry, Davis...

The only 3 that are going to be the hardest are Wilson, Berry, and Davis/O'Dowd but those are the ones that have had good news coming out of their camp lately.

The other guy that is worth keeping a close eye on is Hines. I have always thought he was worthy of an offer, and it was just a matter of times with grades. I would say that this situation won't be resolved until the first of the year.

It is crazy how many 4 and 5 star guys we are in on. And, as you say, the last 9 or so we add will all come from this group. What is even crazier is that the staff may end up having to prioritize these guys and turn quite a few of them away. In random order:

DT-Josh Brent, Joseph Barksdale, Devon Still, Cam Heyward, Antonio Jeremiah

DE-Ben Martin, Martez Wilson, Solomon Thomas

DB-Eric Berry, Dionte Allen, Major Wright, Adam Scott

OL-Kris O'Dowd, Anthony Davis

WR-Deonte Thompson, Leonard Hankerson

TE-Rob Gronkowski

RB-John Clay, Robert Hughes

LB-Jermale Hines

I would put a DL class (if it should happen) of Barksdale, Brent, Thomas, Martin, Still and Wilson up against just about any other class in recent memory, including the Texas '02 class. Martin is considered one of the best DEs in recent Ohio high school football, Barksdale is considered one of the best DL prospects in Michigan hihg school history and Wilson is the #1 player in the nation as far as I am concerned, having watched plenty of his film. Throw in Thomas, Brent and Still and you have one of the most exceptional units ever to head to the same school. That's how good these kids are that we are still in on...

I would just love to be able to witness the battles in practice between this years d-line class and next years o-line class. They are only going to make each other better.

Time for another update, it has been about 2 months. After the game we will probably have a better idea of where we stand with some of the guys that are coming in that weekend.

RB's -Well we know have Boom and with Saine already in the bag we are done IMO unless a stud is not afraid of some competition.

1. John Clay - I think he is a longshot and will end up at Wisky, but I would love to land him.

2. Broderick Green - Just a new name to pop up. He is a soft verbal to USC, but is looking around. I think it has to do with USC bringing in a ton of good backs over the past couple years and they still have a good chance with Joe McKnight this year. I think if he doesnt end up at USC he goes to Arkansas and their upstart program.

3. Robert Hughes - At this point I would not be suprised if he ended up at Ill. They just got Benn. There seems to be some mo coming from that camp. We will see our level of interest after his visit in Dec.

WR's/DB's/S - Not sure how many more we take here.

1. Eric Berry - Could be the best athlete left on the board. If he wants to come here you don't tell him no. I have heard Tenn. is the team to beat, but have also heard that we might be moving up the list.

2. Major Wright - At this point I would say he is ours to lose. Lets see how he enjoys his visit for "The Game". He will be a stud safety here.

3. Deonte Thompson - He is another guy you can't say no to. I think he ends up at either UF or "Thug U", but with a good visit you never know.

4. Dionte Allen - I would say it is 50/50 right now. If he decides he wants out of FSU he will come here IMO. We will see after he visits.

5. Donovan Warren - IMO he is USC to lose. We will see his interest after his visit also.

6. James Scott - At this point I think we might be slow playing him for some other guys.

7. Leonard Hankerson - Another one we seem to be slowplaying, but if he comes in for a visit in Jan we will see what happens.

OL - I think we will take 2 unless both of Davis and O'Dowd want to come here. No reason to fret over lineman with the way the 08' class is shaping up.

1. Anthony Davis - We are the leaders right now, and I really hope that we land him. Rutgers is the darkhorse with their good season they are having. Hopefully he pulls out a buckeyes hat at the AA game.

2. Kris O'Dowd - Lets hope that we impress him on his visit. I think we have as good a shot as anyone.

DT/DE - I think we will take 5-6 with the guys we are in on.

1A. Tez Wilson - Have been hearing some conflicting things, but really like the positives. At this point it seems to be a battle between us and Ill. Lets hope that we can win this battle, b/c he is a stud.

1B. Ben Martin - IMO this one is just a matter of him coming public.

2. Joe Barksdale - Well this has been a roller coaster, but right now I think that we end up with him.

3. Solomon Thomas - Just a matter of getting that test score up.

4. Josh Brent - Right now I am hearing good things, but could be influenced to go to ILL, if they continue the recruiting momentum they seem to be picking up.

5. Anotonio Jeremiah - Just a matter of getting his test score, then he will get the offer and should accept.

6. Devon Still - Just a matter of finishing the visits and going public.

LB's - I think we take 1 or even none, with the way the 08' class is shaping up and after last years great class of 5 studs.

1. Jermale Hines - I say he gets the grades and he gets the offer. Some will disagree, but I think this is a situation that won't be known until Jan.

2. Brian Rolle - He is an undersized lb but is all over the field on film. Should be interesting after he visited to gauge our interest, b/c I think if we are really interested he will end up here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So after all that it is time for a best guess again:

1. RB - Danny "Boom" Herron
2. RB/WR - Brandon Saine
4. DB - Devon Torrence
5. WR - Dane Sazenbacher
6. WR/S - Eugene Clifford
7. DB - Donnie Evege
8. S - Nate Oliver
9. OL - Evan Blankenship
10. OL - Anthony Davis
11. DE - Ben Martin
12. DE - Solomon Thomas
13. DE - Tez Wilson
14. DT - Joe Barksdale
15. DT - Devon Still
16. DT - Antonio Jeremiah/Josh Brent
17. LB - Jermale Hines
18. S - Major Wright
19. DB - Dionte Allen

At this point I am not sure if we would take this many, but you can't pass up a d-line class with those guys in it and if guys like Wright, Allen, Warren, Berry, Thompson, Davis, O'Dowd want to come you can't tell them no.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also a look another early look for 08'

As of right now I don't have a clue on numbers. It will depend on how many studs want to come in this year and you don't tell them no, b/c this type of recruiting momentum doesnt come around every year. So I would say next year the number is going to be between 10-15.

Here is how I see it.

Qb's - I think next year is a year we will have to take one.

- The name on the big board right now is Terelle Pryor. He is a freakish athlete. Not sure on the QB ability yet, but after more tape should have a better idea.

Rb's - I think with Herron and Saine both coming in and the limited # of ships we will take 1.

- Right now the names that keep popping up are Ashley, Womble, and Thornton.

WR's - With a nice haul this year I would say maybe 2 next year

- Some guys with offers and early names are Scott, Sales, and Breaster, Tate, and Flyod.

TE - I think with the lose of Frost that we will take one and possibly two.

- Well Rudolph got the early offer and I still think that Moore or Stoneburner could just as easily get one.

OL - Well This is going to be the mother load. From the looks of it we will take 3 or 4.

- Brewster, Adams, Long, and Shugarts all have offers. I think the first 3 are buckeye leans and Shugarts will be the hardest to pull out of that group. There is also Zebrie Sanders.

DT's - I think if we can land the guys we are after this year we will stick to taking 1 next year. Much like this year with the lb situation after we took 5 last year.

- Not many names right now, but Rowell from Glenville is a name to watch.

DE's - If we bring in Marin, Wilson and Thomas this year I wouldnt think we would need one here next year.

- But Nathan Williams is a kid that might fit a must offer prospect.

LB's - I would think if we get one this year that we would go with 2 or 3.

- Guys of note are Shayne Hale(Offer), Justin Staples, Devoe Torrence, Michael Zordich, Brandon Beachum, Williams.

DB's - I would say if we can bring in any more in tihs class we wont need a whole lot next year. Maybe one or two.

- McCarthy(Offer), Terrance Parks(offer),Rotell Jenkins, Cissoko, Craig(S/LB), Johnny Adams

K's - I think we will take one with the way Tressell values kicking. We may even try and greyshirt him, to create a little seperation with our kickers now.

- The main name that keeps popping up in Ben Buchanan. I think he is a stud in the making and should end up in this class.

So right now if I had to give a best guess here is what I will give. I will put 18 names, but don't think we will have that many ships to give. We will be picking and choosing our guys next year.

QB - Terelle Pryor
RB - Darius Ashley/Jamal Womble
WR - Kenny Tate
WR - DeAndre Preaster/Cordale Scott
TE - Kyle Rudolph
TE - Brandon Moore/Jake Stoneburner
OL - Mike Adams
OL - Kyle Long
OL - Michael Brewster
OL - JB Shugarts
DE - Nathan Williams
DT - Shaq Rowell
LB - DeVoe Torrence
LB - Justin Staples
LB - Shayne Hale
CB - Dan McCarthay
ATH - Johnny Adams
K - Ben Buchanan (greyshirt)

- I think in 08' the guesses are going to be similar, b/c most of the guys with offers have us as the early leaders and the other guys are just a matter of time before they get their offers and then have us as their leaders.

Great post CBF40 - I have to admit i've grown a little frustrated at the lack of commitments that have came in as of late (I guess it will just make for a more exciting couple of months :) ) considering the teams success. Your write up is reassuring though and it looks like after the scUM game things are going to get exciting in regards to recruiting.

Well we have a couple guys that are going to be in the class, but it is just a matter of making it public.

After the Michigan game we will be able to see where guys stand, but wait until the first couple weeks of Dec and up till the AA game and we will see lots of movement.

I couldn't resist CB40...time for a premature '08 list:
QB- TerrellePryor
RB- Jamal Womble
WR- Cordale Scott
WR- DeAndre Preaster
TE- Brandon Moore
TE- Kyle Rudolph
OL- Mike Adams
OL- Micheal Brewster
OL- Kyle Long
OL- J.B. Shugarts
DE- Nathan Williams
DT- Shaw Rowel
LB- Devoe Torrence
LB- Brandon Beachum
LB- Micheal Zordich
S/LB- Fred Craig
ATH- Johnny Adams
K- Ben Buchanan
- This is my best guess list...way early but I wouldn't consider our odds with Hale, Tate, and McCarthy all that great right now. If Torrence doesn't make the grade insert Staples or maybe Schneider. Other than that pretty close lists overall.

I agree with everything other than Beachum and Zordich being ahead of Staples. From the things I have heard and seen I think Staples has a lot better upsdie and Beachum and Zordich just didnt look they are going to garner offers from their film. If they do get offers I think it will be at camp next year.

If Florida gets the class they're expecting, I think it'd compare very well, with Davis, Brown, McCray, Howard, Corley, and Dunlap.

Jamal just joins the Planet, and you spell his name wrong RB.... tsk tsk... lol.

Got it changed, my bad  . I think Staples will certainly be in the mix but I just really like Zordich...camp will be VERY important when it comes to LB's next year, as the only obvious offer is Hale and Torrence(with grades).

Of the offered players, Pryor, Mike Adams, Brewster, Long, and Rudolph currently favor OSU, and Shugarts is a real possibility.

I think that McCarthy probably follows his brother to ND, but that he will strongly consider OSU. A lot will depend on Kyle's experience with Weis (i.e., is Kyle one of the players who allegedly thinks that Weis is a pompous, arrogant windbag).

I think that the Bucks will be in the mix for Hale and Tate.

At this early stage, I don't seen Moore, Rowell, Beachum, or Zordich getting offers.

I would think that Torrence, Johnny Adams, and Williams eventually get offers, and that OSU leads for each.

Buchanan or Schott might end up with an offer as a kicker, but schollies will be tight next year.

I'm not certain about whether Womble, Scott, Preaster, and Craig get offers, but each seems to be legitimately interested in OSU. All our excellent prospects, but OSU is really aiming high right now.

I agree with all of this...

I really hope that if we do go after a kicker that we try and grayshirt them, to give them an extra year to seperate from AP...
