07 Recruiting (CBF40's look at our prospects)

Dont have time to update the look at the prospects, I will be at camp tomm. so I will see some guys up close and will have a little update. I just wanted to take the chance to update the best guess list.

QB - none(unless Belton shows the staff he should get an offer at camp)
RB - Saine
WR - Washington ( We will offer eventually)
WR - Givens (my sleeper)
WR - Clifford (I think he will be a buck in the end)
OL - Claytor (I know this is a pipedream in a way, but I have faith in Tress.)
OL - Blankenship (I hope he pulls the trigger some time this month)
OL - O'Dowd (still have faith here)
DE - Martin (Even tho he is leaning to Notre Dame, once again have a little faith)
DE - Thomas (I see interest picking up soon if/when he comes to camp)
DT - Barksdale (lookin' really good on this front)
DT - Jerimiah (still hoping he impresses at camp)
LB - Peake (I am going to keep him here even though he doesnt think he is going to play here)
LB - Lindsey (The staff liked him enough to give him an offer, and we have quite a bit of positives in our favor here)
CB - Evege (everything will be ok with a camp showing)
CB - Torrence (still a lock once he gets his test score and comes to camp)
S - Oliver

What the hell, I'll give it a try! I think we'll have 18-20 scholarships to give out, so I'll go with the high-end number:

QB: None
RB: Brandon Saine
FB: None
WR: Taurian Washington, Kyle Jefferson
TE: None
OL: Nick Claytor, Nick Schepis, James Wilson
DE: Ben Martin, Solomon Thomas
DT: Joe Barksdale, Antonio Jeremiah
LB: CJ Peake, Brandon Lindsey
DB: Donnie Evage, Nate Oliver, David Arnold, Jordan Berstine
K/P: None
ATH: Devon Torrence (CB/WR), Eugene Clifford (DB/WR), Skylar Jones (WR/QB), Vincent Browne (DE,DT,OL)

This is what I like to call a "Realistic Wish-list." I think Wilson is the only strectch on this list, but HH seems to like our chances. I also think Jefferson puts on a show at camp, and the coaches take a chance on a great athlete.

Notables left off:

Jer'Male Hines- just don't know if he has the frame to play LB, and there are better safety prospects out there.

Andrew Dailey- gets caught up in the numbers.

Evan Blankenship- Waits around too long and gets left out.

Kris O'Dowd- Decides to stay closer to home; nothing wrong with that.

Pretty good list, and I would maybe throw Aaron Johnson in there (assuming the offer is legit - looks to be) instead of Givens.

True but I wouldn't mind seeing us take 3 DT's this year due to depth. Will we take 3 DT types I don't know but it's in my opinion that it would be best, especially if we can get all those 3.

I agree, I would love 3 DT's, but I am just not sure if those two guys would want to come in the same class, that would include Barksdale. Might be hard sledding for one of them to get a starting job ever. I would think that a kid from OOS like Brent would have that in the back of his mind, maybe not as much of a problem with Jeremiah who is a buckeye fan.

There's at least two members of the coaching staff

that want Barksdale on the OL. He could be special there. It all depends how many DT's the staff lands.

Gotta ask yourself which do you perfer a solid DT or a special OG.

He's the same type of player as Marques Slocum just not as quick off the ball. All in all its a good problem to have.

How would he feel about that...it's kinda strange to think that we would take one of the top DT in the country and put him at OL...but if he really is better at OL then all I can say is WOW

they'll let him play whatever he wants to play when he steps foot on campus, but at the end of the day, they'll sit him down and tell him where they feel he's best at. Who knows maybe in practice he shows he belongs at DT. As of now though........

I know that Chirs Pool has been saying this about him as an OG. IMO I would love to be able to move him to OG, because that would mean we landed some solid DT's.

I think that would open up the door for us to take Josh Brent and Jeremiah and also bring in Barksdale as a guard.

That would also give us an awesome O-line class if we could land Claytor, Barksdale, and Blankenship. Also a chance with Schepsis and O'Dowd.

You have to love what the staff has been able to do when they have a position of need, like last year when we needed lb's and they went out and nabbed 5 very good ones and then this year, it looks like the pieces are goign to aline for a very good oline and dline class.
