Chris holds offers from West Virginia and Ohio U. He is hearing from tOSU, scUM, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, VA Tech, Georgia, Alabama, and Notre Dame. He grew up a Tennessee fan. His favorites are West Virginia, tOSU, scUM, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and ND.

I have seen him play this year, he is a Troy Smith clone. They play the same style at the QB position and I came away very impressed with his arm, accuracy and feet. He is a little taller than Troy but a half a step slower too. They are built the same and both have cannons. I would say after camp he may very well get an offer if JT is going to continue running the offense we are running right now because he could step in and run the system we are using, he has the same type of skills that TS has and shows alot of moxy.

True, but we have Boeckman and Robby already in that mold. The new offense we seem to be running is made for a mobile QB. Now, if that is just because it fits Troy better, I don't know... but right now that seems to be the direction we are going. I like Chris to be our QB recruit next year.

JT tends to tailor his offense to what his QB can do and with Troy he can do so many things well. Smith will be a target for tOSU for next years class.

Four-Star Junior Names Favorites

Scout.com just released their list of 100 junior prospects to watch. One of those prospects, quarterback Chris Smith, gives us an update on his recruitment. Which schools have been sending the most hand-written mail? Which school was Smith’s childhood favorite? We have the answers.

Chris Smith, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound, gunslinger, from South Point, Ohio, could be the top quarterback prospect in the Midwest IN 2006. He will be a three-year varsity starter. Smith threw for 1,500 yards as a sophomore and 1,600 yards as a junior.

Smith has a very strong arm but he’s known for his toughness and his ability to make plays with his feet when the pocket collapses. Chris plays the quarterback position with the mentality of a linebacker.

West Virginia and Ohio University have already offered Smith a scholarship. We asked him which schools have started to send hand-written mail.

“Tennessee, Maryland, Michigan and Cincinnati have been sending the most hand-written mail.” Smith said.

“Iowa sends tons of letters also. My favorites are West Virginia, Ohio University, Michigan, Ohio State, Maryland, Georgia and Iowa.”

Smith told Scout.com that he grew up a huge fan of the Vols but yet Tennessee didn’t make the list of schools on his early wish list.

“I’ve been down to Tennessee a lot,” Smith explained. “I’ve always liked the Vols, Neyland Stadium just rocks during games but they’re pretty loaded with quarterbacks right now.

Smith will no doubt be one of the most visited prospects during the Spring Evaluation Period that starts at the end of April. Was asked Chris what his plans were for the spring and summer.

“I’ve been invited to a lot of junior days but I haven’t been able to get to any yet.” Smith said. “Notre Dame invited me to their junior day but I didn’t make it. I’ll probably go to Ohio University in March.

“I’m not sure about combines yet but I’ll be going to a few one-day senior camps this summer. I haven’t decided which schools I’ll be camping yet. All that stuff is up in the air. I’ve just been working out hard lately getting ready for track season.”

As we approach Signing Day 2006, Smith told Scout.com that all schools recruiting him or schools that want to recruit him are on equal ground and he’s going into recruiting with an open mind.

One of those schools, is not like the other, one of those schools just don't belong. :groove:

C'mon Chris, you know you want to party in Athens. Ohio State has way too many great QBs. :biggrin: Sorry, just giddy that a top recruit actually has my alma mater as one of his favorites. It's like that game a few years back that Ohio was actually close to Ohio State at halftime... great while it lasts cuz I just know it won't last long.

From OhioVarsity.com...article talks about how Chris is more concerned with the team than individual accolades. Clemson, NC State and Mississippi State appear close to offering. Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Tennessee are also showing interest. He is in no hurry to decide.
