'07 OH QB Chris Smith (Marshall signee)

That was my criticism of Smith was that the coverage broke down alot but I think alot of that can be attributed to him making plays because his line wasn't blocking for him. Maybe this is why I'm not a scout but I am much higher on Smith than Nowels. I just think Smith looks to have more tools than Nowels does.

It would be alot more telling if we could watch entire games instead of highlight reels of a select few plays. Alot of guys will look amazing on a few plays, then throw 3 interceptions after that. Of course, that won't be included in the highlight reels.

What would you like to wager?<O:p</O:p

Well I will not be at camp to determine whether he had a good camp or not so I am not willing throw around my hard earned VCash :-). I do agree with your assessment that he made a lot of plays based on complete coverage break downs. I think it would be interesting to see this kid play with any type of offensive line. <O:p</O:p

Heck I am not sure calling a kid a MAC QB is a drop any more, but I do think he has shown more ability then that and if he camps well some bigger programs might offer. Is he OSU, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><ST1:pMichigan</ST1:p, or Notre Dame material, I am not sure but his video shows a heck of a lot of promise. Strong arm and nice touch on the screen passes. <O:p</O:p

First, let me say I think Chris Smith is an excellent football player..I just don't see him as a major prospect. By major, I mean upper B10 tier..on the film I saw a fighter...a kid who took advantage of break downs in HS defenses he will not see in college defenses. I like him, but no more than an Iowa level or MAC level QB.

I hope you are right grad... that Chris ends up in the MAC... preferably a place close to his hometown like... ummm, Athens

I know good ol Solich is working hard on him as Smith went to their Junior day. We also have the family connection as Chris's brother is now going to medical school at Ohio University.

While I love my Buckeyes, you can't get all the great players and I would love to see one get away and end up in Athens.

Not at all...and I don't want to sound as though it is. Chris will make some program happy and be a solid performer at the next level, however, I just don't see tOSU, Michigan, or ND offering him...especially not tOSU who takes, at the most, one QB this year.

Has offers from WVU, Marshall, and Ohio University. His coach is baffled as to why he doesnt have more offers. Has recently been in contact with Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Clemson, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Florida, and Florida State.

He doesn't have as many offers, because it's just an outstanding year for QB's. In a regular year, Smith would have alot more offers than he already does. But with so many great QB's in the nation, offers will be harder to come by from him. Notre Dame's #1 priority is Jimmy Clausen, and they are out in the lead for him, which is why Chris doesn't have an offer from them. I know OSU is only looking for 1 QB, because they are loaded with young ones, and that is probably why he doesn't have an OSU offer yet. Florida and Florida State are looking at in-staters right now before they look national. Michigan's #1 priority is Ryan Mallett, and they are out in the lead for him, which is the reason Chris doesn't have an offer from them. Chris is a good talent worthy of offers, but if his coach is wondering why he doesn't have that many offers, it's pretty simple. The 2007 class might be the most loaded class at QB in a long time. Lots of great signal callers this year.

I think the point is that he doesn't even have offers from schools like Illinois, Iowa or the majority of the MAC, let alone top tier programs.

He does have some MAC offers IIRC. Iowa is a harder school to get an offer from these days and they are recruiting other top QB's. Like I said earlier, it's just a loaded year for QB's. There are so many good ones in the midwest and throughout the nation. It'll be tough for some QB to get offers this year. It's just a loaded year for QB's and teams are taking their time offering because they all have their preference. Lots of teams are still receiving and breaking down film of QB's. I'm sure you'll see alot of other names pop up that you weren't even aware of. It's still early.

He only has three offers and only one is a mac school. I can understand the top schools being picky in a what is supposedly a good year for QB's, but there's no reason mac schools like kent, akron ball state, etc. or a school like Indiana haven't offered this kid. They don't have the luxury of being picky. Schools like that need to offer kids like Chris Smith early to gain any advantage they can when a big school misses on their #1 target and then try to get in the game later with a kid like Smith.

I spoke with some people who know him and his family pretty well and they said only a few colleges have seen him in person. They said that Chris has only been to one combine and one college camp ever.He was invited to the All American Combine but could not attend. Many of the kids whose offers have picked up lately were seen by many scouts who were there in San Antonio.I believe he will attend many senior camps this summer including the one at Ohio State. He also will attend one of the Elite 11 QB regional camps. This kid is also a stud in track! With practice throws this spring of 57' in the shot put and 170' in the disc he is getting alot of D1 attention in track.
