'07 OH DE Ben Martin (Tennessee signee)

Just my opinion that I think he would redshirt if our DE's like Rose, Wilson, Williams, ect. pan out.

If Martin is as dominant as grad says, then Rose, Wilson, Gholston, etc., had better be all world to be get the starting nod...I would guess that Martin would be able to at least crack the 2-deep from the git-go.

Wilson is going to be a stud and Rose is unreal and I don't think he moves inside. However I think Worthington may and if he does that is one less spot to jump at DE. Just my opinion that I think he would redshirt if our DE's like Rose, Wilson, Williams, ect. pan out. However if one of the DE's doesn't produce, I think you would find Martin in the rotation quite a bit.

Yeah they are going to be studs, but Martin is Faster and has better technique then all the guys you mentioned.

It is much like Chris Wells coming in. We have Pittman who is a bonafide top 10 back in the country next year and we are talking about a freshmen getting just as many carries as him.

We had guys in front of Ginn when he came in and he got on the field.

In a way it is kind of like if Greg Oden would of came in last year. He would of started over Dials, or at least moved Dials to a PF spot b/c he is that good. He has to be on the field. Now if guys like Rose, Wilson, Gholston, etc. are better than we are going to have multiple first round DE in the next 3-5 years.

I believe that Wilson and Rose can and will be. Question is will they? It's just in my opinion that he doesn't start his freshman year but maybe gets in the rotation if Worthington, Gholston, or Williams doesn't work out.

Edit: Jwinslow said it best.

and chris wells will not be starting over pittman, nor do I think Martin would start over our studs from day one. Childress and Hall were not exactly world beaters in 04. I already conceded that he would likely be in the rotation from day 1, I am merely going to be cautious before declaring him the best DE at OSU as a true frosh. On the other hand, I do not think it is a stretch to say that he will have the most talent/potential.

We are also putting Rose into this category and he has not played a game yet.

We have two guys that have really seen any amount of time and one will graduate next year.

Do we have a crap load of potential? Yes, but none of it is proven and from watching Martin's films I think that he his already on the level as a lot of the guys and will be there when he arrives on campus.

I will say that he might not start right away, but he would see lots of time, and could be a starter by years end. NO way he sees a redshirt.

History has shown that with the OSU D-line, many players get rotated in to keep bodies fresh. Even true freshmen like Wilson and Gholston have seen time in the beginning of the season. All the coaching staff has to do is point that out to Martin to answer the question of early playing time. It's not necessary to talk to Martin about being a starter.

Watching his film that was posted on Sunshine Preps I have to honestly say I can not recall seeing a film and thinking this guy is going to be a sure star in college. After watching this film I have little no doubt this kid will be a SUPER STAR.

My inside source (I'll name the source in private to authenticate the accuracy of this information, but I will not do it on the public board...I hope this does not violate any rules, grad21..?) says that Ben's mother really wants him to pick Notre Dame, but that Ben really likes the OSU staff better and OSU is willing to commit to immediate playing time and ND is not...I'll keep you posted as I learn more.

btw...thanks for your patience with Clifford. :(
