'07 OH ATH Carlton Peake (Louisville signee, transfer to ???)

He is listed right now at 216, and I am sure we the staff can get him on some kind of S&T program to stay at that weight, but still improve physically... or gain only 5-10 lbs. If anybody can do it, Eric Lichter can do it.

That would be more realistic if his 216 lbs. included some bad weight, where he could change fat into muscle mass. He's already well put together so it's only natural he's going to continue to bulk up in college.

By way of comparison, when he was in high school, Alex Daniels was 6'3", 220 lbs, with a 4.52 forty-time, all of which are very similar to Peake's current measurables. At that time, Daniels was adamant about playing safety in college, although the Buckeyes felt that he would be better suited as a linebacker. Now, entering his second year of college football, Daniels weighs in at 260 pounds, obviously far too heavy for a safety (or even a linebacker, in most cases); I can presume that Daniels's forty-time has expanded accordingly.

Of course, I'm not saying that Peake will follow suit, but clearly there is potential for a kid his size to outgrow the safety position, and his insistence on remaining at that position has to be considered somewhat of a red flag.

Apparently, grades are another issue with CJ.

MSU (where SirDarean Adams has had some success in the "Bandit" role) might be a good fit for Peake.

any "inside" views on CJ? It scares me as this recruiting class looks like it may start filling up fast... if CJ will get an offer. I'm a big fan of Peake but am growing pesamistic of him being a part of this class.

Ohio State already has commitments from the two best safety prospects in the state (Clifford, #1 nationally according to Rivals; and Oliver, #10 nationally), and the Bucks are still in on Major Wright from Ft. Lauderdale (#7 nationally). Very little or no room for Peake at safety, and the kid doesn't want to play LB (sounds similar to Alex Daniels from two years ago). So, your pessimism regarding Peake is warranted, although the Bucks' class will be just fine without him.

There is a lot of excitement being generated right now.
That could sway him our way!
Either way, this is going to be another outstanding class!
he doesn't needed swayed, all he needs is an offer. I agree with LBJ, if he doesn't want to switch positions I think he gets left behind.

Grades are borderline but that isn't why he isn't being offered by OSU. He won't play safety at the next level most likely and people keep acting like the only reason we haven't offered is because he doesn't want to play LB. We could offer him to play DT and he would accept. He is a big Buckeye fan but he won't likely get an offer at safety or LB, but he is a very good player.
