But that wasn't the first distraction this weekend. Glades Central receiver Tarus McKinley was. McKinley, the brother of UM corner. back Randy Phillips, didn't take his visit to UM. He was taking the SAT on Saturday, and I was told unless he drastically improves his test score he might not qualify for UM and might be headed to prep school or somewhere else. I don't believe he's the only receiver who isn't fully qualified yet, which should explain why the Hurricanes are still pursuing a number of wideouts.
His high school teammate Deonte Thompson of course is atop the list, and I'm told it's a two horse race between UM and UF for this speedy wideout, who did visit this weekend. The Gators have eight scholarship receivers returning in 2007. Three other receivers are committed to UF, and Florida's still in the running for Ahmad Paige. The depth chart clearly favors UM, and so does the family element for this father of a five-month old. But the Preston Parker episode last year taught me not to bank on anything until that John Hancock is on that letter of intent.
Those top prospects holding out to make signing day announcements always have some surprise up their sleeve, and for all U know Thompson could be signing with USC. It would also be wise not to count college football's best closer, FSU's Bobby Bowden, out, EVER, even if the prospect didn't visit Florida State.

I thought I was one of the most optimistic ones. Trust me I'm always hopeful but at the same time, reality is sinking in pretty fast on recruiting. All the wind has darn near died in my hopefull sails. I still think were getting a good class (B-/C+ grade) and I think we'll at worst loose 1 game next year (12-1) and possibly undefeated depending on QB play. (thats half full for ya).:)May be he already told coaches that he's coming to tOSU Be positive man
