'07 FL WR Deonte Thompson (Florida signee)

Buckeyenate, if people in the know are saying it's going to be very tough....then I assure you it's going to be very tough. I wouldn't get your hopes up with Deonte. It's going to be VERY hard to get this kid out of the state of Florida.

hornsby might be a better example... but I agree. Ginn improving as well will give him a great shot at becoming our second straight first round WR (in a thin draft), and leave an obvious void for a burner like thompson.

It's a free article so it's not only for "people in the know."

I'll stick with what Muckstepper said in that OSU is second to Miami right now.

No surprise in the update, he mentioned OSU after Miami. It was fairly positive, but reaffirms my opinion that it's going to be a battle for his services. It's not going to be an "easy" recruitment. I kind of figure it to be more of a Derrick Williams, Myron Rolle type battle as all the top teams are going after him.

I wouldn't say we have not chance, but I wouldn't say our odds are good.

From what I've seen, my guess would be 40% Miami 25% Ohio State 25% Florida, then 10% that he goes anywhere else. It's really too early to tell everything anyway as he hasn't taken any visits yet for any of the games.

More like Miami 45%, Florida 45%, Ohio State 5%, the field 5%....

But, hey, don't let me rain on your parade - it's always good to have a positive outlook.

Fact of the matter is that it is very early and anything that anyone says is a guess at this point. Things will change a lot over the next several months for Deonte.
IMO, I agree that it will be extremely tough to woo Thompson from the Sunshine State, but as I said, that is only a guess at this point...

Thompson

I would say it is like 50% Miami 30% Ohio State 20%UF but IF Coker has another 3 or 4 lose yr combined with a great yr for Ohio State and Troy up for heisman and Ginn leaving early I would not bet against OSU. Nobody knows if Meyer's system will even work in the SEC. I feel every lists Ohio State as not the power we are unlike UF we earn respect on the field from our opponents (even Mark May is a buckeye fan now).

I think it's best said right here. We all should agree that it will be a tough get for us to lure Thompson here. Hornsby was a known lock for Florida so I wouldn't put them in the same category. Thompson likes UF as a childhood favorite but they are loaded at WR and Miami has the depth chart he is looking for. OSU has the depth chart, Holmes, and Dukes but distance will be a factor. He likes them all and these seem to be the facts that I gather and the rest(like percentages on getting him) seems to be just speculation. I haven't seen any insiders calling him a lock anywhere but just saying where they think he will go due to certain factors, not connections. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well like I said, I was going by what Muckstepper said. He said he talked to the Glades coaches and people as he obviously lives there. Obviously he could be wrong, but he's been pretty reliable, and I think theres more reason to believe in not going to florida than people think. For someone who has repeatedly said he values playing time so much, you would think he wouldnt want to go to florida.

And another thing to note is that in Nevada's recent chat, he mentioned thompson as one of the 2 or 3 receivers we get this year. Although he did mention that it's way to early to really know how things are going to turn out, and that it was more of a guess than anything else at this point.

I don't believe anyone has said he would not come to tOSU or that he would come to tOSU...however, if you've followed tOSU recruiting at all over the past few seasons, you realize just how difficult it is to pull a premiere player from the south. It happens occasionally, but not often. It may very well happen with Deonte, but all I am saying, and what the others are also saying, is it will be a very tough road. It is possible of course because this is recruiting...however, if I had to bet my life savings, tOSU would not be my choice.

Nothing more, nothing less. No inside info and no concrete sources.

Well I'm in the same boat as you. Don't think we will get him but it's early, no sources calling locks, and we have some serious advantages. I wouldn't bet anything on him going to OSU and wouldn't bet on anywhere if I didn't have to. I'm sitting back and waiting on this one.

I think you are right on. Every source I have heard says the same thing...longshot but this is far from over. Miami is in the driver's seat...
