'07 FL WR Deonte Thompson (Florida signee)

His talent is undeniable. I was very impressed by his speed and strength. The only thing that I didn't like about his film was the taunting and holding the ball up every time he went in even if he was in traffic. But none the less we need to get on this guy. I give it a 4.3 out of 5.

The video is pretty impressive, but 7 out of 5?! He didn't make a single leaping (wait...maybe one), diving, or otherwise difficult catch. He did show good strength in breaking some tackles, along with great speed and the ability to find the seems in the coverage. I'd say that was a 3.5-4.0 out of 5.
once again its a highlight video. hard to tell. has good natural ball instincs for sure. but i agree mili no "amazing" catches. but sometimes the special ones make the hard look so easy and fluid.

after watchiing it 3 times my comparison would be eddie george. edide had so many average runs, that when you rewatched them were spectacular. he just glides and plays with an ease.

He is hella fast with great hands and field IQ, but he just doesn't have the shiftiness I thought he'd have, I would love to have him, but I think Ray Small if qualified will do awfully well too, of the two I would say that Small is the better runner in the open field. But Thompson is younger and fairly raw.

Scout has released their list of 2007 prospects to watch. The pub has begun pegging Deonte as a Top-10 overall and the #1 WR prospect in the country.
2007 prospects to track
Scouts Inc.

There's a lot of time between now and next year's national signing day, but here are 10 Class of 2007 players to track:

QB Jimmy Clausen (Oaks Christian-Westlake Village, Calif.): Already one of the most talked about recruits in the country. He's the younger brother of Casey and Rick.

RB Noel Devine (North Fort Myers, Fla.): 2007 version of C.J. Spiller, only with more power.

OT Chris Shannon (Phillips Academy-Andover, Mass.): Big offensive tackle who moves well.

QB Matt Simms (Don Bosco Prep-Franklin Lakes, N.J.): Dad Phil went to Morehead State, brother Chris Simms went to Texas, and now Matt. Could he be the best of a talented quarterbacking family?

OT Javario Burkes (Moon Valley, Az.): Junior prospect with incredible size.

RB Mark Tyler (Oaks Christian-Westlake Village, Calif.): Son of former NFL running back Wendell Tyler and teammate of Jimmy Clausen.

QB Ryan Mallett (Texarkana, Texas): Big-armed pocket passer from the Lone Star State.

RB Chris Rainey (Lakeland, Fla.): Next in a long line of deep and talented players from Lakeland High.

CB Gary Gray (Columbia, S.C.-Richland Northeast): Corner prospect from 2006 ESPN 150 DE Adam Patterson's high school.

WR Deonte Thompson (Glades Central-Belle Glades, Fla.): Receiver prospect with top-end speed.

Why make leaping and diving catches when he doesn't have to.Most incredible catches are because QB's either underthrow or overthrow.I didn't see that on the video.
Why make catches harder then they have to be??
Kid is a STUD,better then I expected.

Just seeing this kid reminded me on holmes. I would love to get him he looks like a stud. I hope he has a good head on his shoulders and picks a tOSU, where he can excell. Not only on the football field but in the classroom too.

Muckstepper(Belle Glade authority) post from Rivals.....[BuckeyeDayton posted on BN]

<HR> Hey Buckeyes, I'm here to give you guys a heads up on the happenings down in South Florida. I have seen some gator fans disagreeing on my information concerning WR Deonte Thompson and arrogantly so! I want to think I'm a creditable source from info in the past. So, I'm back again to give you guys the inside info after visiting Central Highschool this week and talking to players and coaches who I am familiar with:

Glades is loaded with talent next season and every big-time prospect likes Ohio State. Let me throw some names at you all:

*WR Turus McKinley - one of the the Best in Florida (#53 overall) is interested in OSU but note, his brother plays for Miami(Randy Phillips)
*DB Damien Berry - Rated #13 overall in the state which makes him the Top DB in Florida. A bigger Donte Whitner; father played for the Canes.
*QB Bryan Mann - One of the Top QBs in FL; imgine a taller Troy Smith that a lefty.
*OT Ernest McCoy - 6'6 330lbs everybody wants him; have more offers than Thompson
*DT Jetavious Jackson - 6'4 270lbs big-time loves OSU
*OG Maurice Bynes - 6'4 325lbs a beast, could also be a noseguard

Last but not least: Wr Deonte Thompson (directly from the source)
Miami & Ohio State is his Top Two! favoring Miami; here why...

(Miami)
1)Depth Chart(can start right away)
The Canes only signed one in two recruiting seasons and Thompson is #1 on their board!
2)Best Friend is DB Randy Phillips; phillips played as a true frosh and will start next season.
3)Family are hugh Canes Fans including older brother(has a hugh influence on Thompson)
4)Close to Home

(Ohio State)
1)very interested/will take a visit
2)cousin is Wr Albert Dukes
3)friend/workout partner Santonio Holmes had success there & will be the first Wr taken in the Draft(will attend draft party in Belle Glade)
4)Depth Chart looks good with Ginn,Gonzales & Hall leaving

The team that's very intriquing: Notre Dame
Likes Florida State after the rouse dismissal but the Noles signed an impressive Wr class as did the Gators!

My take: Thompson is looking at playing early and Miami offers that; Now Buckeyes will be a player to the end and if any more changes to the Canes coaching staff (Coker being fired)happens, then Thompson is fair game. ohio State is guaranteed one or two at Glades; McKinley is just as good and dangrous is the opened field! Even though his brother attends Miami, the Canes is looking to signed 4 WRs and McKinley might or might not be one of them. patients will be a virtue with Thompson recruitment! UF may or may not get a visit b/c Thompson have been there so many times and can take a unofficial one at any time. Notre Dame is a Wildcard; they have no deep threat on the roster or in their recruiting class. He could make the same impact(if not greater)than Holmes made at OSU with Charlie Weiss passing offense and the rumors of Jimmy Clausen going there!

Sounds good.....

I imagine G8trbait will disagree with that post...most Florida fans that I have spoken with maintain he is Urban's to lose. Whatever the case, there are many people with intimate knowledge of Florida recruiting talking about Thompson and Miami/OSU.

I'm not going to say that I disagree with it but I just don't put much stock into it. Consider the source: One internet poster who posts a meassage on one message board. If I put stock into all of those messages...well you get the idea.

I always consider Miami a threat for a S. Florida kid until he says otherwise so I do believe that Miami could end up with him. I can't say the same with OSU even though you have to recent WR from Glades.
