'07 Bucks to mirror '02 Bucks?

I'd be very nervous if we had to rely on Mo Wells as a runner getting any significant number of carries. He gets tackled too easy from what I've seen. Is he better off lining away from the backfield and catching passes? Maybe. I just haven't seen him do anything that would make me feel comfortable with him getting 15 or more carries.

Agree with CBF that Hartline needs some love. He made things happen when the ball was thrown his way, and has shown he has good hands and is not afraid to catch the ball in traffic.

QB: Krenzel pretty much hit his peak in 2002. The guys for next year haven't started a game yet. The advantage goes to the '02 squad.

RB: Wells will go over 1400 yards next season, provided that he stays injury free. However, Clarett was just something else. It's a wash.

WR: Next year's group will be deeper. Advantage '07.

OL: Barton, Boone and Rehring will be flat out dominant. Advantage '07.

TE: wash

DT: '02

DE: Smith and Scott were more physical and polished. Advantage '02.

LB: Looking forward to big improvements from Laurinaitis, Freeman and Homan. Advantage '07.

S: Advantage Mike Doss.

CB: Advantage '02. Gamble is a physical specimen and Fox is one of the better CBs that we've had. Jenkins is a great player but we need Washington to step up.

The 2002 team was coming off of an immensely frustrating 7-5 season.

The 2007 team may be fresh off of a 13-0 crystal football type season.

.
.
.

The 2002 team, especially the Seniors, had been through some of the worst years to be a Buckeye since the late '80s. Years that got a coach fired.

The 2007 team will, in its second game of the season, match Ohio State's longest ever winning streak.

.
.
.

The 2002 team was led by a man who returned for his Senior season for the express purpose of winning a National Championship.

The 2007 team may have that advantage: we'll have to wait and see.

.
.
.

Football is all about team chemistry. 2002 had it. 2006 has it.

Will 2007 have it? Time will tell.

If Teddy decides he wants to stay for one more year, he could be the Doss of '02. That'd be sweet.

As for DEs... Man. I know Will Smith is one of the best we've EVER had... But Gholston and Wilson? And freakin ROSE?? I'd call that a wash, if not advantage '07.

With Boone & Barton at the tackle spots...you have to be kidding. Our center & guards might not match up, but our tackles next year will be insane.

Krenzel was never a great QB, he was a great decision maker and leader. Who's to say Boeckman can't step in and do the same? He has been in the system 3 years now. You never know. I think his stats could easily be comparable to Krenzel's though, considering his weren't all that gaudy. All we need at QB is a good leader. A field general who doesn't make mistakes. I think these two teams could be extremely similar when it's all said and done.

The D line won't be close to the D line of 02. That was one of the best lines maybe ever and the main reason that that group was so dominate.
The OL will be as strong or stronger than 02, but I don't know if the 02 line was really that great. Step is the only one that I would consider a great player at the time.

One advantage I see for 07 is the offense is more diversified now. In some of 2002 when Mo was out or limited the offense was weak. I don't see tOSU going away from the spread with the receivers we have. With good protection and an accurate passer this offense will be more productive if teams gang up to stop the run.

IMO the only place where there is a tangible advantage for the '02 squad is at DT and probably safety. The '02 group has the advantage in several intangible areas.

at CB Jenkins is every bit as good as Gamble IMO. Washington/Amos et all probably are a wash from '02 dustin fox. Doss/Nickey were a very good safety tandem. The '07 unit will be just as/more athletic, but the '02 group were seniors, which falls into that intangible category.
JL = the Kaiser, maybe a bit better. Terry >= "Turbo" Reynolds. Freeman-Grant, I'd give the dge to Grant.
Along the DL, Gholsten/Wilson as a tandem is close to Smith/Scott (Scott was a better DT IMO). Anderson/Peterson is a far better unit than whoever lines up there in '07.

Offensively the '07 group has the edge in almost every unit, save for QB, and a healthy rb spot.

The one good thing that the '07 unit has going is a backloaded schedule.

Boeckman and Robbie are both big, athletic guys, who can move.

Boeckman is a heady, all around athlete with a good arm.

Robbie, scUM wanted badly! Nuff said.

And Henton the coaches just love.

It will come down to reading defenses and leading.
