'06 OH OT Lee Tilley (Auburn Verbal Commitment)

If tOSU gets serious about recruiting Tilly, I am sure an in-home with Coach JT can change her mind on that.
But it sounds as though we need to get into the game sooner than later.
From what I hear that would make quite a difference. A personal touch would go a long way I am sure.

From what I understand, not even a visit from JT can help the Bucks at this point. The Tilley camp isn't even taking phone calls from the OSU staff at this point. I think we are probably going to focus on 1) Connor Smith 2) Aaron Brown and 3) a major OOS recruit, like a J.B. Walton....
Thats False, They are taking calls from all schools, offers or not. They jsut want to hear what each one has to offer. I am sure his Mother would like to ask JT or any coach for that matter about the Off the field issues.

Aaron Brown, Connor Smith, Bryant Browning and Ryan Palmer are all fine with me. Mitchum, Skinner and Person from the '04 class, Boone and Cordle from the '05 class, and the development of Rehring should make for a very fine, young offensive line.

Thanks for your responce Wad, much appreciated. I can see the Tilley's point about the offer issue. I assumed Tilley would get his offer the minute that Boren verballed to UM, but that has not been the case. However, if he wants to be a Buckeye and wants that offer, history has shown that going to the OSU camp is where you will earn it...if you are worthy.

Tilley

Lee has no intentions of attending OSU's camp without an offer in hand. Thus, things are at a bit of an impasse...[/QUOTE]

Unfortunately for Lee, this year appears to be a "buyers" market when it comes to offensive linemen. Lee seems to be a pretty level headed kid, so I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to mom being overly concerned about the off field incidents. It appears that Lee is a second tier consideration with the Buckeye staff, regardless of what other schools may think. If being a Buckeye is remotely in his plans, he would go to camp. Obviously the Buckeye staff up to this point is saying to Lee " you can show me better than you (or others) can tell me." Good luck to him whichever direction he chooses.

I doubt that Browning gets an offer, as at 6'3", 330, he doesn't fit the OSU "profile" for an OL; very similar build to Ronnie Wilson....

Other names to consider are Jake Ballard (reminds me a bit of Kirk Barton - a TE body now who should grow into tackle) and Clark Crum (6'7", 280, athletic, plays basketball).

Currently, the Bucks best chance at an OOS player would be J.B. Walton from Maryland - a fast, athletic guard with a mean attitude. Sam Young has not expressed any interest in OSU recently.

Forget about Tilley - he's the Incarnato of this year's class.

Offer Him! :nerd:

Sorry. I just had to. Seriously though, this situation arises seemingly every year. I've never seen him, so I won't judge his ability, but it always seems like someone thinks they're too good to come in and perform for the coaches. Just because the coaches don't "show enough love" early in the game doesn't mean a thing. If Tilley wants to come to OSU, he's gotta show up and I, for one, would love for him to come play for the Bucks. If he doesn't want to, we'll live...

not disputing your comments at all, as I am sure you are closer to the situation than I am...I was merely reporting what I had been informed about the status of Lee's recruiting with OSU. I was lead to believe that things were at a total impasse, as it appears that Lee does not appear to have any intentions of camping at OSU without an offer, and the staff does not seem to want to invest the time in Lee to cultivate his interest in OSU.

for now, I think it is a dead issue. I gather that the staff is comfortable with where they are with Smith and Brown, as well as some other kids that we may or may not know about (Charles Deas, J.B. Walton [who I think is an absolute stud], Maurice Hurt, Jake Ballard, Ryan Palmer, Clark Crum [huge sleeper in this class], Chris Hanna, or maybe someone that is not in the database yet)...

2. Auburn
3. Arizona State
4. Florida
5. Oklahoma

Also in the mix...

It's a shame that we may miss out on a kid who's one of the top 3-4 OL in the state.
But, it looks like he will be headed south, or at least far away from the Big Ten....so we'll wish him luck, success, and move on. Much better scenario than watching him matriculate up north or to Wisconsin or something.

LEE TILLEY

With 36 college scholarship offers in hand, Springfield South offensive linemen Lee Tilley has cut the number of schools he's looking at to twelve. What schools made the cut? Bearcat Insider has the latest and also ask some hard questions.
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Lee has 36 total offers and has narrowed his list to twelve schools....Georgia, Auburn, Arizona State, Florida, Oklahoma, Cincy, LSU, NC State, Clemson, Washington, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. The article addressed why Ohio State has not offered and Tilley said that OSU showed early interest but was not invited to any Junior Days, thus he moved on thinking they were not interested. He has no bad feelings, he is happy with his offers. His mother commented that she was concerned with the off the field problems at OSU and basically said she would not even let Lee consider the Buckeyes at this point in part because of the problems recently in the program. His high school coach feels that OSU did not evaluate Lee properly and thought they could hold off on offering until later in the process.

(My take is that the mother and coach are upset they didnt get an early offer and feel like Lee was slighted by the staff)

That update sounds exactly like what Highstreet and I said earlier...I know EXBEARCAT disagrees, and like I still think you are probably a lot closer to the situation than I am, but I think this proves that the info was pretty solid and I stand by my statement that even a visit from JT or Bollman to Springfield would not help us with Lee at this point.

I see Mom's comments as motivated by pride...I don't agree with her assessment, but I can understand the anger. The Junior Day slight is very telling...

Duane Long had a very nice assessment/rundown of the staff's OL evaluations...I'll defer to them on this one.

Best of luck Lee...
