'06 IL QB Isiah "Juice" Williams (Illinois signee)

I think Iowa and Wisconsin are shaking in their pants more than Michigan about the success of recruiting in Illinois. Remember almost every top player Iowa landed last came from Illinois. Notre Dame's rise also hurts.
since 2002, michigan has gotten 8 players from illinois/indiana. 6 were rated 4* and above.

since 2002, iowa has gotten 10 players from illinois/indiana. Of those 10 (if you count kyle williams who didnt qualify and ended up at purdue), 7 were 4* and above, with 5 of those 7 coming in 2005.

since 2002, wisconsin has gotten 11 players from illinois/indiana, none of which were rated 4* and above.

bottom line is that michigan has historically done just as well as iowa and wiscy in that area. you could argue that illinois will be grabbing more of the 3* caliber players that iowa and wiscy get, but ttun has purged just asa much talent from that area, and with the exception of iowa in 2005, better overall talent.

In a pre-season Big Ten annual, a Big Ten coach said he didn't know if Ron Zook was such a great recruiter, after all, his wife could recruit at Florida. Well, that coach and the rest of the Big Ten coaches had better take notice of what's happening in Champaign.
</td></tr> <tr> <td colspan="3">
Isiah Williams out of Chicago (Vocational) is one of the elite quarterback prospects in the nation. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder, had more scholarship offers on his table that he could have ever imagined but he’s been keeping something from all of us the past two weeks. “Juice” has made his verbal commitment and now he’s ready to do some recruiting of his own.

“I’ve actually been committed to Illinois for a couple of week,” Isiah Williams said.

“The only people who knew where myself and the Illinois coaches, I just couldn’t hold it in any longer. It was like having this great secret that you just wanted to tell the whole world. I was ready to bust, so I went ahead and made it public.”

Williams, a 4-star quarterback prospect, joins Chris James of Chicago (Morgan Park), as recent commitments to the Illinois. Williams and James are both “Top 5” prospects in the Land of Lincoln and “Top 100” regional prospects. Isiah is a shoe-in for National “100” recognition.

Ron Zook and his staff at Illinois have went after its home turf with reckless abandon and they’ve done a marvelous job in offering the top prospects and selling what the University has to offer.

“Illinois just felt like home,” Williams explained. “The location is perfect, my family can come watch me play, the academics are excellent and the atmosphere with the fans is also a factor.

“Maybe the top reason for my commitment was the situation at quarterback. I have a great opportunity to play early at Illinois.”

Isiah Williams has been compared to a young Byron Leftwitch. He has a cannon for an arm and put his arm-strength on display at the Scout.com All-American Combine in Champaign last month.

Williams turned down offers from the likes of Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Iowa so he could stay home and play for his state school. What message does “Juice” have for the rest of the top prospects in Illinois?

“I’ll be doing some recruiting,” Williams said. “I’m going to be on Marques Wilkins (Illinois) , Jerry Brown (Missouri) and the other guys who have offers from Illinois. We’re going to get this thing turned around.

“I’m just happy my commitment to Illinois is now public. I just couldn’t wait to tell the whole world that I was committed to Illinois.”

This was a “Key” get for Illinois. They needed to land either Williams or Demetrius Jones in this recruiting class. Williams jumping on board this early will definitely give the Fighting Illini some momentum with the rest of the top in-state prospects.

Reggie Mitchell was hired by Ron Zook because of his reputation for being a great recruiter and so far, Coach Mitchell, has been worth his weight in gold and then some. </td></tr></tbody> </table>

illinois could be a very tough team to play in the future.

If that coach could ever lock down the recruiting in state from now on, they will be one of that top 3 in the big ten every year.

Imagine how good Penn state would be if they got what they wanted every year in penn

They'll be much improved, but Wisconsin outperforms with far less talent and will probably continue to improve in that department. And Zook had a truckload more talent at Florida and lost to horrible teams. I won't write him off, but let's wait and see what happens with MSU, Purdue, Wisconsin, Minnesota all being fairly decent middle tier teams these days.

thank the lord we lost "juice" to ILL and not some team that could actually hurt us down the road...just kidding. good luck isiah, and maybe this is exactly what they needed to right the ship. don't forget they won the big 10 (was it 4?) years ago, and took the 2002 national champs (Go Bucks) to overtime. If Zook keeps this up he might get to keep his job!! lol oh well, Tress will find his man at camp, and the guy will probably bend over backwards to be a Buckeye. we'll be fine.

This is interesting does it seem like he is seriously considering us in the article?
he actually shows OSU a lot of love. he talks about our winning program, offense, and academics. he also mentions that it is a football town and said that we are a forerunner when taking the visits. overall, he will probably stay with zook, but seems to have a lot of interest in us. he is talkin about taking his visits so he knows for sure whether illinois is best for him or anohter school is.

Here we go again. He who continues to dig up dirt and dig up dirt, may just end up digging a hole for themselves. Once again, "I got Juice".

I would be almost crazy to bad mouth the OSU or any other university of that caliber and not take my visits. Hey, official visits are a part of the process. I commited to the University of Illinois and don't see myself going back on my word. That's not my style.

If I was going to commit to OSU, I would have done so. Then, I would have taken an official visit to U of I. Plan and simple. Thats not the case, in fact its the complete opposite. So like I said when I commited to U of I, it's going to be great playing for the home team.

Does anybody know if the official visit that Williams is scheduling is for the Texas game? If so...

1) He gets a chance to see the premier preseason game in the country for free. He's firmly committed to Illinois but is taking advantage of a great opportunity like that to take in a great atmosphere hosted by a great staff, etc... or...

2) Simply stated, it all blows him away and he wants to be a part of the Buckeyes and starts to stray from his commitment to C-U towards Columbus....or....

3) #2, only we experience Jason Gwaltney all over again and Juice Williams ends up committing on signing day to..........

Illinois.

From Rivals.com...Williams was the runner up for Most Improved over the course of the week at the Elite 11 camp. He also won the awards for Best Feet and Most Likely To Play First in college. Rivals rates Williams as having the second strongest arm behind only Matt Stafford. He says he is 98% committed to Illinois. OSU is his clear #2 choice.
