'06 FL OLB/TE Colin McCarthy (Miami Signee)

Hardly a scrap, I really think Doe and McCarthy are interchangeable, one just happened to be noticed first and jumped at the offer.

I try and be unbiased as I can and if you asked me if I could take any LB in Florida I would hesitate then say Collin McCarthy over A.J. Jones. McCarthy is a great athlete, makes huge plays, and can hit like a truck.

I know the feel man. There's just something about this kid that tells me that he should either be in an Ohio State or Penn St. uniform and be a two time All-American.

From the Nebraska site...Colin talks about a slight shoulder injury he had during the second half of the season. JT is visiting Colin next Thursday. He is also entertaining visits from coaches from Georgia Tech, Miami, Nebraska and Florida.

Maybe it's because he's white? Don't mean to be racist or anything, it just seems that the northern schools have more white players(e.g. I don't believe UF has a single white LB, nor are they recruiting any except McCarthy).

I'll say it again, this years LB class looks to be Homan, Moeller and McCarthy. Add Lenix to the group and we are REAL FINE. Johnson is an outside shot and Gibson is unlikely. Yes, Johnson's size would make him a welcome addition. So let's keep our fingers crossed on that one.:wink2: :)

Thanks for your input Mr. Schwartz. I think that would be a very excellent LB class. I don't think we want to take a ton of LB's this year either, because we've got Andrew Dailey, Jermale Hinds, and Gino Sturdivant (all who most project to be LB's) just in OH next year. The ones you mentioned plus the three I mentioned will have our LB Corps in great hands for years to come.

I know what you are saying but if Bowman, Johnson, or Gibson want to come and are able to get in you take them.

By size, you mean he could play a standup DE like Carpenter? I'm not sure we have that versatility with our current and incoming LB's. I could see Freeman possibly play a rush DE in the future. Maybe Hoobler since he's taller. That's why I really hope Johnson gets his grades together.

I haven't seen enough of Mark's play to say whether I feel he could do the things that Bobby has done. Bobby has been special. Certainly Mark has height that the others do not which would possibly make him a candidate to play with his hand on the ground and add some pounds. It will be interesting to see what Bowman decides. He sure would be another nice addition. Love to see a guy like Ryan Hill come in too. Especially if Wallace chooses elsewhere. You can be sure that this class will be top notch.

I'm with you lagunasurf,
Homan,Moeller and McCarthy at LB and that's it,unless something happens with Gibson's test scores .
*Johnson stays out west in my opinion either UCLA,Fresno or if SC comes in late and offers.I just don't see the interest from OSU right now.All the talk of LSU is probably because he felt slided by SC and UCLA early on.
*Bowman is probably PSU bound since he's tight with Williams and Mabin and talks to those 2 a lot by phone. That's a big tip-off.
*Wallace-Seems to like the flash and dash of Miami and FSU over OSU and PSU but that's just my opinion.Seems high on SC if they offer as well.
*Hill-Well,he's probably not going to like the weather in Columbus this weekend which won't help pulling him away from Miami.

**Again, these our my opinions and I have no sources except what I read on the net 4 hours a day looking for OSU recruiting info...yes, I'm a recruiting junkie and I need help....yea right

Fingers crossed on Bowman, Wallace and or Hill. It will be very interesting to see what happens in the case of Johnson. If he can't get into tOSU or USC he ain't gettin' in UCLA. Easily one of the more difficult schools to gain entrance to right now. Almost Ivy League:biggrin: . Seriously, I know kids admitted to Duke but turned down by UCLA. Now these were non-athletes but you get the picture as to where UCLA is @ regarding admissions standards.

OSNYC over on BN's premium board claims that McCarthy is all Buckeye right now:

Sounds like some great news regarding McCarthy, hopefully we'll close out with Colin and one / both of Johnson and Gibson.

Edit: You cannot c&p from the BN$ board--21

Recently found out that McCarthy has been upgraded on scout from an unranked 3* to the #33 LB in the nation and a 4* ranking. He was one of only a HANDFUL of Buckeye prospects that moved up in the rankings (Dublin moved from a 3* to a 2*!)
