'06 CA WR David Ausberry (USC signee)

Nebraska knows that they are running 3rd behind USC and tOSU, and know that they will have NO shot to move up if David is in C-bus for the UT game. it's really their only chance.
that being said, i still think he picks USC. would be great to get him, but i think he'll stay home.

I think we stand a decent shot as of now. Too bad we can't get him up for the Texas game but maybe the Iowa game that will be a pretty good one. Right now he is probably a big USC lean but on the other hand that is about all he has seen. We show him around Columbus and he gets to see his father and meet Tressel then I think he has us about even. He seems to have an open mind and all the things he listed as important we have. He says distance is no factor so we are good there. Also we are in need of a big WR now and after Santonio Holmes leaves then I think we could really use him right off the bat. If we make a late push I wouldn't be amazed if he headed north to play for us.

As much as I like Lyons, he may not get enough PT to make David think we are set at the big WR spot. I think Lyons could be solid this year, but I still think Gonzo will be our #3, and after him Hall (who graduates IIRC).

By the time Dukes comes into his own by midyear (IMO), we will have 3-4 returning standout burners at wideout.

I still think we have a shot when he watches us pass the ball the way we should this year. It will be clear that a physical mismatch like him could be a perfect complement to the extreme speed OSU can field around him...

I don't know how long you've been following recruiting, but ALL recruits say that distance is not a factor; this statement usually comes right after the one about how academics are a primary concern. Needless to say, 99% of such statements are pure BS, and most kids choose the local or regional school which has the best parties and prettiest girls.

I hate to temper your enthusiasm, but OSU is always a longshot to sign a California kid, and Ausberry is no exception (nor is Bradford, nor even Reuland, who has strong ties to Ohio). The first step is getting an official visit, and that's not even a certainty at this point.

In almost all of the reports I have read on recruits the ones that say I would like to stay near home but will go to the school that makes me feel comfortable are the ones that stay home 99% of the time. What about Na'ill Diggs, Kenyon Rambo, and JaJa Riley? Granted USC wasn't the team they are now back then but still they had other options out west and didn't have family ties that I am aware of. You can't say that all the recruits don't mean that because look at all the recruits that opt to leave state over in state offers like florida kids for example. I do however agree that our chances aren't great as of now and that we do need to get them in for visits. Reuland is coming in for an unofficial this summer I believe and I think he will be in for an official visit. Bradford said he will use his visits to see whats past the west coast and I think we are a prime candidate for a visit even though odds are we won't get him. Ausberry will almost certainly visit. At one point we were his co-leader and are in his top three as of now with USC and Nebraska so i'm confident he will give us an official. Most of these guys will most likely stay out west but I think Ausberry and Reuland will give us serious consideration.

Man, USC may never stop looking good at passing the ball...matching up with Jarrett, Turner, Ausberry and Davis is a nightmare for defensive coordinators.

David was extremely impressive at the Beyond 2000 Elite Camp. The camp coordinator said David is possibly the best WR to ever participate.

man...just think of how close we were to landing 3 of the 4. While Ausberry is still "open", the writing appears on the wall. Hopefully he comes to the Texas game and experiences big time midwestern football at its finest.

He's going to Nebraska for 9/10 to see the mighty Nebraska-Wake Forest game.

was talking with a USC fan the other day... he stated that he though we had a great shot at Ausberry. he thought that depth at USC might be more of an issue for Ausberry than it would be with our depth here, due to the size factor (that being that we don't have any big receivers that are proven at this time). USC will return Jarrett, Smith, Lewis, Turner, and McFoy, their top 5 receivers. 3 of those guys are similar to Ausberry in style of play. who knows... but he seemed to think that we may get him.

Very interesting indeed. I think we could sell him as our big WR easily since Hall and Lyons haven't really made an impact quite yet. I've been trying to tell everyone our chances really aren't that bad just because he is from another state and nobody believes me. I really think after his visit here we may have just as good of a chance as USC here.

No offense, but why should we believe you? Have you spoken with David, his coach, or someone else close to the situation? There are USC "insiders" on this board who have claimed that David is a Trojan "silent verbal"; these "insiders" are almost always correct concerning USC recruits. While Signing Day is still nearly seven months away, and David could still change his mind and decide on another school like Ohio State, I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet. If the situation should change, you'll hear about it here.

This kid's actions tell the true meaning of his intentions. 1) didn't attend OSU's summer camp after he indicated there was a good chance he would and 2) scheduling the titanic-epic battle of the lame Cornhuskers vs. that powerhouse Wake Forest when he has the opportunity to see the 9/10 Texas game. If OSU was a serious player--he would want to be in Cbus on 9/10....
